Someone get this mom-impersonator a cup of tea, STAT. Contrast is how creation takes form. in fashion, this can mean mixing "high and low"-- (something we *love* here @ Sensoria!) the placement of something either casual, gritty, distressed, next to (or on top of) something high fashion, elegant, delicate or otherwise sophisticated. In this case, the fringe top is casual, showing a tasteful bit of skin, comparatively wild in contrast to the refined, sophisticated, if not slightly academic (?) vintage Ralph Lauren wool robe. This is why they go sooo well together. As always, DM us with any and all inquiries xoxo #countlaurenula #vintageralphlauren #canyonroad #santafevintage #bestofsantafe

Though we *love* a designer label (and have a huge selection in the store!) vintage clothes make us nostalgic for a time where even "generic" labels constructed their garments with structural integrity, quality, and a level of care we just don't see anymore... Even from some designers nowadays. This is why vintage clothes last so long... and will *probably* outlive us. You can feel good about gravitating towards any piece in the store; designer or just good ol' vintage. Even if they've been loved a lot already, they certainly have more to give. Especially this old school moto jacket, with quilted accents and a pop of green. #santafevintage #canyonroad #vintageclothingsantafe

Watt-ever, Watto. We can't figure out if this Vintage corduroy varsity jacket belonged to a Watts, Watt, or the enigmatic Watto... Any way, the guy was undefeated since '52, and Dane can't get enough.... it seems he's been inoculated with the mysterious watto fever that has become terminal to the point it affects his speech... perhaps more... Results inconclusive. All we know is we can't get enough Watto. #santafevintage #canyonroad #bestofsantafe #wattofever

This is... well, the Moto edit. Starting off strong with the One (and Only) Sexy Republican Bondage Biker Jacket. Don't let our jokes deter you, this *is* One Sexy Jacket. 100% genuine Republican leather, sorry, *cough cough*, 100% genuine leather. Honestly it can swing towards either side of the political spectrum depending on who's wearing it. Pairs very nicely with #microbangs for a more liberal slant. Really helps even out the #AMERICA 🦅 vibes from the patched on stars and spangles.... but the choice is yours. Really tough jacket either way. #santafevintage #bikerjacket #canyonroad

Hey sexies, back again for another Let's Talk Vintage... Deep thoughts Part 4 of ??? This 30/40's evening coat featuring a mink fur collar and has a meticulously embroidered pattern all across the back. It's from a now defunct department store, Russeks Fifth Avenue, founded by Frank and Isidore Russek, who hailed from a longstanding furrier family. Their first location was on Sixth Avenue, stocked only with fur scarves and muffs in 1911 and by 1924 they were one of the top fur stores in New York City. They survived the Great Depression, and actually netted profit throughout most of those years. At its height, Russeks employed over 1000 people and besides its flagship location in Manhattan, had locations in Brooklyn, Chicago and Detroit. In 1959, after 5 years of straight losses, they decided to cease operations permanently when the tides of fashion shifted away from the furrier family. This time on "What a Small World": Diane Arbus, *the* transgressive photographer, was the granddaughter of Frank Russek, the co founder. She got her start working in the Russek advertising department before quitting commercial work and pivoting entirely to focus on her own personal vision.... #relicsfromdaysofyore #vintageclothingarchive #santafevintage #canyonroad

This time on Let's Talk Vintage... Deep thoughts Part 3 of ??? Roberto Cavalli debuted in Paris, 1970 with a radical collection featuring vibrant, printed leather evening gowns-- crafted using a technique which he *did* patent, and quickly caught the attention of established houses like Hermés and Pierre Cardin (Cavalli *also* commissions when they utilized his method). The collection also featured innovative patchwork on leather and the print techniques on denim: the theme? Flashy, experimental, saturated, animal. His father was a painter in the impressionist style, and his mother was a tailor. Before cementing himself as a painter amidst an education at the Academy of Art in Florence, he fused his lineage and began painting on textiles, which was virtually unheard of at the time, eventually leading to the development of his iconic print techniques. Then came the mid 80's. Minimalism, deconstruction, exaggerated proportions were in. Cavalli's flash and glamour was out. Business in his Saint Tropez boutique wound down. Regardless, he stuck to his sensibility, turned inward and family oriented, and eventually, the 90's would reward his persistence by ushering in an explosive resurrection to his consistent, stable brand image, enduring the fickle fashion cycle. Excess was in again, and his 1994 Fall/Winter collection, featuring the advent of sandblasted denim (which he also invented), cracked paint effects, as well as renaissance, rococo and animal prints, is lauded as *legendary*, bringing him to the international playing field. The key to his success? "Copying God"--admiring the skins of other species; fish, snakes, tigers, leopards, zebras-- he found that "God really is the best designer." This denim coat is from his Cavalli Jeans line, later rebranded as Just Cavalli. It features the very same ostentatious print and paintwork, elevating denim and messiness to luxury stature. 290 USD. DM for measurements. We of course ship 🪽 BTW this series is shot by Corey @coreystein.studio who is our fabulous, amazing, and sensible cinematographer-o-licious 💋🪽 #everyonesayhicorey #justcavalli #vintagedesigner #santafevintage #canyonroad

This time on Let's Talk Vintage... Deep thoughts Part 2 of ??? The eponymous Jean Claude Jitrois is a lesser known designer label known for bringing leather couture into the sphere of luxury fashion. Officially established in 1983, he dressed the likes of Farrah Fawcett, Cher, Brooke Shields *and* Stephanie, the Princess of Monaco, who was in part responsible to elevating the little brand in Nice, France to *royal* household status. Jitrois was classically trained in psychology, specifically as a psychomotor therapist-- a branch of study dedicated to strengthening the mind-body connection; skin to touch, muscle tension to thoughts. In childhood he admired his father's leather jacket-- covered in medals because he was a pilot-- cementing a lifelong obsession between man and leather. These experiences clearly informed his "skin/ ego" thesis: leather as a second skin that simultaneously conceals and exposes. It's both protective and intimate. Jitrois uses leather to exaggerate the feminine silhouette into something powerful; not in competition with the masculine form, rather something that transcends it all together. Which is evident from this 80's blue leather jacket with embroidered accents-- the pronounced shoulder pads, the cinched waist, the flared hips, powerfully androgynous and *very VERY* of its time. Extra little factoids: the Jitrois fashion house is responsible not only for the advent of stretch lamb skin leather-- developed by Jitrois himself-- but also for dying leather with extravagant, vibrant colors, bringing the material up up and away from its previous connotation of criminality and gang-garb, and rugged, utilitarian status. Dm for measurements. 520. We also ship 🪽 #jeanclaudejitrois #vintagedesigner #santafevintage #canyonroad
