Today is a day of honoring the children who were stripped away from their families and placed in residential schools with the sole purpose of "killing the Indian in the child.” Not only were the children deprived of their ancestral knowledge, but they were also exposed to many forms of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse. These children are our grandparents, parents, aunts, and uncles. For some, they’re even our cousins as the last residential school wasn't shut down until 1996! It’s so terrible that many of us are still healing from the intergenerational effects of these residential schools.

So today I will wear my orange shirt. Today I will remember the hardships the indigenous people had to face. Today I will honour them all!!

WE ARE DESCENDANTS OF SURVIVORS, WE ARE SURVIVORS!!!! 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡
