Treatments have been going well, training has been getting better and better, and I’m feeling stronger with every session I’m able to commit to. I’m excited to finally put together a full fall season starting in Rifle, and just get back outside, have fun, and see how far I can push myself.

Something I learned from producing FREE SOLO that I brought with me while producing EVEREST: THE OTHER SIDE: I realized the team behind the film needs to be just as unwavering and committed as the athletes we’re capturing to have a successful and safe production. Producing within these types of formidable landscapes allows for no error without major consequence. Trust, know-how, and shorthand become crucial components when assembling the team. Heartfelt thank you to the many indelible team members - many of whom I don’t have photos of. Clair, Mikey, Jim, Sarah, Cheyne, Samuel - true masters of their craft and so appreciative to have first started working with you ten years ago in Yosemite Valley.

developing a dozen years of film, part iii. the homies. the people that have held me through the transitions, who’ve loved and celebrated me, and said yes to silly adventures in costumes, who got me through quarantine with desert camping missions, who know the glory in elaborate, slow brunches at the Lang, who scramble around granite ridgelines with me and swim in alpine lakes, who laugh and dance and climb and bike with me, who see me and define me and push me and make me who i am. grateful 🤲

RECOVERY / There are many versions of myself that I will never be again. I love looking back and loving the me in these moments. My past selves know a lot about strength and grit. And all that is soft, too. I look forward to meeting this new version of Sara. It’s been 8 days since surgery and I’m already so antsy to finally rebuild my body for the longterm. What will I learn now? What places will teach me? Who will I meet? What will my body do and become? What barriers will I run into? And who will be around to challenge them with me? I don’t doubt I’ll be running in the mountains and climbing cliffs again — I just wonder how it’ll be, knowing what I know, feeling what I feel (or cannot feel), ever older but still so relatively young. Good things await. Probably some bad things, too. But, as I wrote for my upcoming film: I teeter, I try.

Hard to believe but today marks the 8 year anniversary of free soloing el cap! Time flies. I’m still so grateful to the whole team for working on the climb with me and documenting it in the film. It was such an all star crew and such a great adventure (though obviously stressful at the time…).

Now I’m married with two kids and a house. How life changes!

2024 was a really great year and there is so much to reflect on still. One thing I am so proud of is the growth of my passion project blooming into something so beautiful. Two years of @progresosessions ❤️‍🔥

I don’t know where it’ll all go, but up until now it has only been going up and forming into something so special. And that is thanks to all the talented artists and supportive humans coming together to sit and dance in my living room for evenings of celebrating music, art and community. Wow, can’t wait for more. 🫂✨

winter break: i love you. many nights of candles (eight, in fact), back-to-back heartfriend visits from previous chapters of my life, a silly but entirely correct amount of saunas, sleeping in until 9 every day, fun sports in beautiful places, so many rainbows and probably too much rain, but zero complaints from this girl. happy new year.
