A MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN

Tonight, I had the honor of being recognized by Cheyney University as a 40 Under 40 honoree, and this moment means more to me than words can express.

Cheyney is where I was molded as a scholar and leader, where I found my voice, and where I graduated as a Keystone Honors Scholar. To come full circle and return to the very institution that helped shape me, now serving as Dean of the Honors Academy, is something that is not lost on me.

I’m incredibly grateful for the mentors, colleagues, friends, and family who have poured into me, challenged me, and supported me along the way.

Above all, I give glory to Jehovah. As Psalm 115:1 reminds us:

“Not to us, O Jehovah, not to us, but to your name give glory, because of your loyal love and your faithfulness.”

And to everyone who had a hand in this surprise video, Y’ALL! 😭 I cried real crocodile tears! I love y’all DEEP! Thank you for reminding me that the greatest part of this journey has always been the people, the scholars ✨

I love Cheyney and I love our students 💙.

Here’s to the work ahead, the doors we continue to open for those coming behind us, and the beauty of coming home. ✨

And never forget: Going to college is a privilege. Going to Cheyney is PRESTIGIOUS!

Our scholars recently had the opportunity to sit down with Ms. Gretchen Tucker Underwood, the granddaughter of Dr. Leslie Pinckney Hill, Cheyney’s first president and the namesake of the Bond-Hill Scholarship.

They spent time learning more about Dr. Hill, his life, and his legacy through stories shared by his own family.

Take a listen to this piece of Cheyney history!

Last week. The inaugural 1837 Legacy Classic was an impactful event that brought great energy, great connections, and plenty of unforgettable moments to @pennoaksgolfclub1965.

The day brought our community together while raising funds to support Cheyney University and expand opportunities for our students. A special thank you to our sponsors, golfers, staff, volunteers, and everyone who helped make the inaugural event a success, and to Penn Oaks Golf Club for being such a wonderful host.

Swipe through for a look back at the day, and we’ll see you next year on the green!
