Economists often describe the movement of goods, capital, services, and people as key drivers of economic growth & integration.

One of Africa's biggest economic challenges is that it trades relatively little within the continent (around 15% - 20% of the total African trade) compared with regions like Europe or Asia.

Barriers to movement, along with infrastructure and regulatory challenges, contribute to this.

When people cannot move easily, it becomes harder to build regional supply chains, scale businesses across borders, and create larger integrated markets.

When entrepreneurs, students, researchers, professionals, artists, and investors can move more freely, they exchange ideas, build businesses, attract investment, and strengthen regional ties.

Reducing unnecessary barriers to movement while still addressing legitimate security and immigration concerns can support greater trade, innovation, and economic growth across Africa.
