Chicago is home, but our work doesn’t stop there. ✈️

Did you know Corten Collective is licensed in 12 states?

Our latest project took us to Atlanta, where we teamed up with the Riveron team for their new workplace. A fresh take on the design language we established together in Chicago, with a material palette inspired by Atlanta’s urban fabric and natural landscape.

Thanks to our wonderful project team @riveronconsulting @salasobrien @officerevolution @teknion @infiniumwalls @chicagolightworks GC: Humphries & Company Photography: @kendallaileen

Last week, we had the chance to spend an incredibly fun evening with our fellow resource library managers in the A&D industry. 🚤🏙️

It was a night full of great conversations, shared ideas, and plenty of laughs—all while taking in the beautiful Chicago skyline from the river.

This group deserves a round of applause for keeping the heart of their firms running. Resource libraries are essential, and the people behind them make all the difference.

We can’t wait for more fun times and continued collaboration with this amazing community! 💙

Thank you to all of the agents, specifiers, and designers who spent time with us in Sonoma this weekend. From the design lab, to factory and office tours showcasing the fixtures that light our spaces every day, it was an inspiring few days of learning, conversation, and collaboration.

Guests joined sessions on integrated ceilings, sustainability, and BABA (Buy American, Build America) compliance, and we debuted our new Design Roundtable, exploring creative new combinations of standard products to build unique installations.

We wrapped up the visit at Roche Winery with a tour and wine tasting to close out the weekend.

We always appreciate the chance to connect, share ideas, and spend time together beyond the showroom floor.

Why It Works | Toilet Rooms

In commercial toilet rooms, design has to work harder. These are some of the most heavily used spaces in a building. They are expected to perform, endure, and feel intuitive day after day. This space succeeds by treating performance as a design driver, not a limitation.
Large-format ceramic tile wraps the walls and floors, creating a durable, low-maintenance envelope with a calm, cohesive visual language. Subtle shifts in texture and tone add depth without distraction, while a glossy decorative subway tile at the vanity introduces contrast and reflection at key moments of use.
A dark solid surface vanity with integrated sinks reinforces cleanliness through seamless detailing, supporting hygiene, longevity, and ease of maintenance. Matte black plumbing fixtures provide a clear visual counterpoint—intentional, tactile, and resilient to daily wear. Warm wood stall fronts soften the overall palette, balancing the cooler materials and bringing a sense of comfort to the space.
Even, carefully integrated lighting ensures consistent visibility at the mirrors while maintaining a composed, understated atmosphere. Every material and detail is considered not just for how it looks, but for how it performs over time.
By aligning durability, comfort, and clarity, this toilet room transforms a utilitarian necessity into an intentionally designed experience.

That’s why it works.

This elevator lobby demonstrates how restraint and precision can create a calm, elevated experience. Rather than relying on bold gestures, the design uses light, texture, and contrast to establish clarity and comfort in a high-traffic space.
Soft, integrated cove lighting activates the ceiling plane, evenly illuminating the lobby while minimizing visual clutter. Dark, monolithic elevator surrounds anchor the space, creating a clear hierarchy and reinforcing a sense of arrival. Lightly patterned wallcovering and carpet introduce subtle texture, balancing the darker materials and adding warmth without overwhelming the palette.
Large-format dark porcelain tile grounds the lobby with durability and refinement, while linear lighting at the elevator reveals becomes both a functional and architectural element, guiding users intuitively and enhancing the overall composition.
Through controlled contrast, layered textures, and lighting used as a defining design element, this elevator lobby feels composed, intuitive, and quietly sophisticated.

That’s why it works.

Why It Works | Elevator Lobbies

This elevator lobby uses materiality and form to guide movement intuitively. Rather than relying on signage alone, the design subtly leads occupants through the space using pattern, rhythm, and texture.
A combination of large-format porcelain tile and smaller-format tile in the same colorway is installed in a deliberate pattern, creating understated wayfinding through the flooring and naturally directing users toward the elevators. Warm, textured wood panels add contrast and warmth, grounding the space while elevating its character.
Custom wedge wall elements gently separate the elevator lobby from adjacent tenant areas, introducing a sculptural rhythm that suggests movement and flow without creating visual barriers. Together, these elements define the space while maintaining openness and continuity.
Material-driven wayfinding, clear spatial hierarchy, and sculptural form transform a transitional area into an intuitive and engaging experience.

That’s why it works.

Why It Works | Elevator Lobbies

This elevator lobby proves that contrast is a powerful design tool. By pairing dark, textured surfaces with crisp light elements, the space creates immediate visual clarity, energy, and direction.
Large-format porcelain tile panels provide a refined, durable backdrop, while warm gray textured wood LVT flooring introduces warmth and tactility underfoot. Textured wallcovering softens the contrast and adds depth without visual noise. Integrated elevator call lights are treated as design features rather than accessories, becoming intuitive wayfinding elements that enhance both function and experience.
Overhead, recessed linear LED lighting is arranged in a deliberate, graphic pattern, activating the ceiling plane and reinforcing movement through the space. The result is a lobby that feels bold yet controlled, dynamic without being overwhelming.
High contrast, clear hierarchy, and thoughtful integration of light and materials transform a transitional space into a memorable one.

That’s why it works.
