August 12th also happens to be the Unearth Day of the Famous, Intact Tyrannosaurus rex 🦖 skeleton, “SUE!” She was discovered in South Dakota, 🇺🇸 in August 12th, 1990. 🏜️🦴🦖 Named after her discoverer, Sue Henderson.👱🏻‍♀️ Hard to Believe, but I saw Her, the Real Sue, at the Field Museum, @fieldmuseum 3 Years Ago! On my Trip to Chicago, Illinois, @chicago 🏙️🌇🌃🛕😎🍕🌭🍿🎡⛴️⛵️🚤🛥️🐟🏖️🏝️🌊🦣🦖 in 2023! At 42 feet long, 20 feet tall, and 9 tons, she’s one of the largest and most intact T.rexes 🦖 in the world! Other specimens were found that were larger. 🦖🦖. 2 more dinosaurs in the museum, Maximo the Patagotitan, 🦕 and Sobek the Spinosaurus are also larger. But when they put together her full skeleton, they found that her bulk was more massive than previously expected. She gave us insights into Tyrannosaurus 🦖 in ways that we never knew before. Her body shows many injuries 🤕 that healed ❤️‍🩹 from battle. But her death 🪦 was caused by the holes 🕳️ on her lower jaw. They were parasite 🦠 wounds! Studies of slices of pieces from her ribs showed she was (growth rings like in a tree) 🌳 🌲 🌴 28 years old when she died. So like many dinosaurs, 🦕🦖 as well as humans 🚶🏾‍♀️🚶🚶🏼‍♂️ and elephants, 🐘 T.Rexes 🦖 reached their adulthood in their early twenties. A replica of her in bronze was at Dinoland USA at Animal Kingdom, which is Now Extinct, and I’m still trying to help dinosaurs 🦕 🦖 return to the park. The life sketch I did of her real skull, and photographs of the mount, allowed me to do this portrait of the skeleton in ink 🖊️ and watercolor paints. One of the most amazing sketches I’ve ever done. Even today, she continues to inspire many future generations of people. I thought of using her as my model for Tika, in The Dinosaur 🦖 King. 👑 The Best Friend, and later Mate, and Queen 👑 of Tyron. 🦖 Happy Unearth Day SUE! 🦖 From PALEO-Puppeteer-Productions! 🪵📦🔪🪚🔨🪛🔩⚙️🗜️🦾🦿🦵🦿🦾🧶👕👗👚👖🎎🫈🦕🦖🪢🧵🤳🎬📽️🎥🎞️🎭 #SuetheTrex #HappyUnearthDay #TriptoChicago2023 #FieldMuseum #PALEOPuppeteerProductions

It’s official, Fletcher Pierson’s (@tellakinetic ) workshop “Ensemble Puppetry for the Stage” was a favorite! Folks paired up two weekends in a row to explore the various skills and elements needed to create ensemble Bunraku-style puppetry. It involved breathework, tapping into a flow state and some intuitive movement among other things. Best of all, the puppets got their workout in! Thanks Fletcher for leading us and @xmungyx for organizing, and to all who participated. Special thanks to @theneofuturists and @chicagopuppetstudio for letting everyone roll around on your floorboards! #roughhousepuppetarts #puppetryworkshop #chicagopuppets #chicagopuppetstudio

Meet staff member & puppet wizard, Caitlin McLeod!😍 Caitlin (Nasty Brutish and Short Co-Curator) is a Chicago based puppet, costume, and scenic designer.   Caitlin was always drawn to puppetry and entered the professional world of puppetry back in 2018 after taking a Rough House workshop on building soft sculpture puppets. She soon after collaborated with Rough House on the first iteration of “Harrow House” in Fall 2018, the predecessor to “Exquisite Corpse”. Since then she has taken on a handful of roles in Rough House as costume designer, puppet builder, and most notably co-curator of Nasty Brutish and Short.  Being a co-curator involves many roles for Caitlin and her co-curator Myra Su. They launch a call of acts, view all the applications, and put together a line up for each evening that showcases a variety of puppet forms, new artists, veteran artists, and a duration of roughly 60-80 minutes. Caitlin and Myra then coordinate all the artists, run social media, work with the venue, and take charge as stage managers and live stream hosts for the cabaret evening. All for some good fun short form puppet theatre! They love giving an opportunity to artists that allow them to showcase their puppetry ideas in a low risk environment. She says, “My favorite part of Nasty Brutish and Short is when the show begins. We get to witness a wide breadth of storytelling in one night, each one holding a unique source of magic. You can feel the energy of the puppeteers flood into their creations as they take the stage.” In the puppetry world, Caitlin also works at the Chicago Puppet Studio as the Project Manager. Here she creates plans to execute a variety of puppet design projects from start to finish. As a designer Caitlin’s recent collaborators include: Lookingglass, Raven, Chicago Children’s, Lifeline, St. Louis Shakespeare Company, Virginia Stage Company, Drury Lane, About Face, Teatro Vista, Timeline, Steppenwolf, and Writers. Caitlin also works as a freelance craftsperson, creating sculptural costume and puppet pieces for: Manual Cinema, The Goodman, Lookingglass, Northlight, Cabinet of Curiosity, Oklahoma City Ballet, Writers Theatre, and more! The puppet artist poses with her giant polar bear puppet. Behind her is a shadow puppet screen with an image of a giant polar bear..
