🐭🎄Synopsis🐭🎄

Two best friends. One ridiculously gorgeous new flatmate. A very opinionated mouse. What could possibly go wrong?

Daisy and Kate are broke, single and facing another Christmas in their decidedly less-than-luxurious London flat. But at least they have each other. And Nigel, their cheese-stealing resident mouse, although technically nobody invited him.

Then Maximillian Taylor arrives.
Tall, golden-haired, impossibly handsome and working in fashion, Maxi is supposed to be the answer to their financial problems. Unfortunately, he creates a much bigger one.

Because Daisy thinks she might have found The One.

Kate has something rather less romantic in mind.

And Nigel doesn’t trust him as far as his tiny mouse paws could throw him.

As Christmas approaches, friendship gives way to jealousy, misunderstandings and one spectacular festive rift. With a meddling landlady, questionable life choices and a philosophical rodent watching the whole disaster unfold, this is one Christmas nobody at Miller Avenue is likely to forget.

Warm, filthy-minded, ridiculous and full of heart, The Christmas Rift is a laugh-out-loud festive comedy about friendship, falling out and discovering that sometimes the greatest love story isn’t the one you expected.

🐭🎄Author Bio🐭🎄

Karen (K.L. Crear) is an author, over-sharer, and walking cautionary tale. Think: a sweary teenager trapped in the body of a menopausal woman who can’t sneeze without risking a wardrobe malfunction. You’re welcome.
Once upon a time, she worked in banking, the Civil Service, and property management, or as she likes to call it, The Beige Trilogy. She spent decades being respectable (ish), responsible (occasionally), and quietly losing the will to live. Then one day she found herself broke, baffled, and built entirely out of biscuit crumbs and unresolved trauma.

I am honestly all over the place with what I want to say in this review. I went into this one largely blind and while I am happy that I did, some may not be, and will want to know what they are getting into.

Tysm @prhaudio I did an immersive read of this one. I was thrilled that the narrator was Maggie-Meg Reed, the same narrator as the main character Sybil in The Correspondent.

Thank you @chicklitcentral and @harperperennial for a gifted copy of Big&Lily by @lisaroewrites . This novel is about second acts, sisterhood and the expected ways that we find ourselves in hard times.
Bridget aka Big is the big sister and has struggled to keep her family including her mother on track. Even though her kids are from, her house is retired and her mother is demanding, she can’t seem to finish her endless to-do list.
Everything seems so easy for her sister Lily. But, Lily’s life implodes when she discovers her cheating on her. She decides to run away to Alaska and takes Big with her on a survival trek. The sisters must navigate the wilderness as well as confront years of resentment that they have buried. I can’t wait to read this book which just came out on August 11, 2026!

I will be reviewing I LOVE YOU, CHARLIE TANNER by @lynnegolodner at @chicklitcentral next week. For now, I just want to say that I loved this novel so much. It was comforting and unsettling at the same time. I just couldn't get enough of it! It's currently available on KU, so definitely go check it out.

(Trigger warnings below. May contain spoilers.)

QOTD: Are you still with your first love or did it take a few tries to find "the one"?

I'm with the latter. I met my husband after a few failed relationships and we've been together a total of 24 years. 😍

I’m a pretty big Sarah Adler fan and will always read anything she writes! She had my heart with Mrs. Nash’s Ashes and has kept it with every book she has written since. Wild Goose Chase is no exception!

The Freshman Parents by Ko Porteous
4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What a wonderful story that perfectly captures those mixed feelings of sending your child off to university. The excitement, the lonely nest sadness and the worry of them going it alone. The story mainly centres around Heather, the very protective mum of Georgia and Scott the single dad to Brianna who believes in letting your child find their own way and make there own mistakes.

The book switches narrative between the two. But also as we move from month to month as their kids’ first year at St. Andrews progresses and we get updates from users in an online community for freshman parents. These interspersed segments are so funny and realistic. The scenarios and struggles for both the parents and the kids. Mums and dads dealing with nits and worms like they’ve got toddlers again really made me chuckle.

It’s in this online community that Heather and Scott first but heads with their very different parenting styles. When their daughters become besties at St. A’s then the pair are forced to spend time together. Their relationship slowly builds over the months, neither truly wanting to come clean about their feelings.

The whole book was a joy to read. It’s funny and it feels so realistic. I’ve got all this to come when I'll be a freshman parent in a few more years!

Thanks to @prhaudio I was able to read with my ears for this one and Kelli Tager and Barton Caplan narrated the book beautifully.

How are you today? How was your weekend? Are you a fan of flying?
