#NUGAVolunteerNetwork2026 | Official Onboarding

Where passion meets purpose, and students become the force behind the Games.

The NUGA Volunteer Network 2026 officially kicked off with its onboarding webinar on the 17th of March 2026, welcoming both new and returning volunteers into a growing community of service, leadership, and impact.

Moderated by Ogechi Stella Mmeka, the session set the tone for what it means to serve beyond the field, building skills, networks, and experiences that shape the future of sports in Nigeria.

Our NUGA president Prof Mohammed Bawa graced the event and agve his welcome address to the volunteers. We're truly honoured to have him back from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University

Our Media and Marketing Head, Ms. Chidiebere Ezeani, also led discussions and handled the opening remarks in place of our assistant secretary general

With insights from our speaker, Faridat Qowiyu, volunteers were equipped with the mindset, discipline, and direction needed to thrive within the NUGA system.

From service to teamwork, leadership to growth, this is more than volunteering, this is building a legacy.

12th of March 2026, Day 2 and the wrap-up of our groundbreaking Sports Administrators Clinic Workshop.

The two-day programme brought together Directors of Sports, Chairmen, and sports administrators from institutions across Nigeria to strengthen conversations around governance, sustainability, and the future of university sports.

Our first trainer for the day was Dr. Ugochukwu Osuji, Chief Operating Officer of MediaVision Limited.
He delivered an engaging session on Financial Sustainability and Marketing under the theme “Transitioning Sports from Recreation to a Viable Business Model.”

Drawing from his experience as a certified sports consultant, he shared valuable insights on sports business strategy, institutional growth, and positioning athletes as assets within the sports economy.

The second session featured Hon. Bukola Olopade, Director-General of the National Sports Commission. Although he was unavoidably absent, his representative delivered his message on Operational Restructuring and Infrastructure, highlighting the vision of establishing Centres of Excellence across the six geopolitical zones.

The discussions emphasized institutional collaboration, policy frameworks, and the alignment of NUGA with the mandate of the National Sports Commission in using sports as a tool for youth empowerment and job creation.

It was inspiring to see sports leaders and administrators from across Nigeria gathered in one room to strengthen the future of university sports.

A meaningful close to a two-day clinic that will truly remain one for the books.

Special appreciation to ASG Dr. Sylverina Olaghere CFPM, MHSN, for gracing the occasion, decorating our guests, and delivering the welcome address.

And to our host Chidiebere Ezeani, thank you for the leadership and commitment that made this programme possible.

To my amazing colleagues and project managers, Abdulmalik Juma, Caleb Ken, and Abba Attah, congratulations on a successful programme.

This could not have been possible without the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU) and the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA).

More great things ahead.

Our long awaited 2 Day Capacity Building Workshop for sports administrators across Nigerian institutions has finally begun.

Day 1 was powerful.

We had the honour of hosting Beverly A. O., Founder and Academic Director of Business of Sports Institute Africa, as our lead trainer. Her session on sports governance, policy frameworks, and institutional management stood out for how clearly she humanised complex systems that shape institutional sports.

She unpacked the realities of policies, insurance, stability, and the legal frameworks needed to strengthen sports governance across our institutions.

Our second trainer, Lady Syombue Kibue, joined us virtually from Kenya with a strong session on sports commercialisation, sponsorship, and marketing.

Her message was clear.

Sports must be positioned not only as a talent pathway but also as a serious business industry driven by branding, packaging, and strategic marketing.

It was inspiring to see these powerhouse women share practical knowledge that pushes university sports forward.

Definitely a NUGA programme for the books.

More progress ahead for university sports in Nigeria.

Aupal Emmanuel, FISU student ambassador 2021 and 2022 for Uganda

He had an insightful visit to Cairo, Egypt, where he took part in key discussions shaping the future of university sports in Africa. ✨

As an Executive member of @fasuafrica, he attended the FASU Executive Committee Meeting, the 6th FISU-FASU-NUSF Strategic Dialogue, and the FASU General Assembly from February 21-24, 2025. These events focused on university sports development, leadership, and strategic planning, with the 2025-2026 sports calendar unveiled and Cairo officially presented as the 2026 FASU Games host city. 🇪🇬🏆

@aupal_emmanuel also connected with FSA for Egypt, including @ahmedhateml & @micheal_reda2000, and FSA for FASU @raymond_muhumuza, reflecting on student leadership and upcoming international events.

He had the opportunity to attend @Soccerex MENA 2025, a top sports business event, meeting football icons @sirayahshiraz & @iamsilvestre while networking with industry professionals. ⚽🔥

His visit also included exploring the Pyramids of Giza and the Grand Egyptian Museum, immersing himself in Egypt’s history.

💡 “If it weren’t for the FISU student ambassadors programme, I wouldn’t be where I am today. So, believe in yourself. Don’t be afraid to start, and stay active in the program. Give your best in everything you do—whether at work or school—because results will always follow."

I had the pleasure of attending the @soccerex MENA 2025 event in Cairo, Egypt 🇪🇬 at the Egypt International Exhibition Centre.

Soccerex Mena 2025 in partnqership with @sportsexpo.eg provided a global platform for federations, leagues, clubs, legends, and leading brands from the region and beyond to network and explore opportunities.

At the event, I met and had a chat with two greats in the football and sporting sector ⚽ 🔥🔥 @iammsilvestre, the French man who once played for @arsenal FC🔥⚽ and @sirayahshiraz, Presenter and Reporter in the @premierleague @laliga @nba among many more.

Thanks to the @emys.official and @fasuafrica for making this happen.
