Mimolette.

December 2024.

Mimolette was found at the bottom of a garbage can, emaciated and covered in fleas.

Our beloved Dora opened the foster door.

An entire life changes in that simple sequence.

From the bottom of a garbage can to this bright star.

Healthy.
Loved.
Safe.
Glowing.
Living a life that once seemed impossibly far away.

Look at her now.

This is what commitment does.
This is what fostering does.
This is what happens when ordinary people decide that where a dog was found will never determine where they’re going.

Mimolette wasn’t garbage.

She was treasure waiting for someone to look inside.

Damn, does she shine.

Tiny body.

Ancient soul.

Alma walks on a leash like she’s been doing it for years, proud as can be, taking in the world one thoughtful step at a time. She’s the kind of little survivor who somehow came through life’s challenges without losing her softness.

She’s incredibly smart and exceptionally tidy. The type of girl who seems to understand far more than she lets on and probably has opinions about how her blankets should be arranged.

While her body may be small, her heart absolutely missed the memo.

It’s enormous.

Alma loves with her whole being. She notices things. She thinks things through. She carries herself with the quiet confidence of someone who knows that being little has never stopped her from being mighty.

Part old soul.

Part tiny philosopher.

Part professional heart stealer.

Entirely unforgettable.

PREVENTION IS RESCUE

Yesterday, we said goodbye to Fiona.

Last week, Fiona came into our care as a TNR cat. She was beautiful, gentle, and deeply loved in the short time we knew her.

After surgery, she wasn’t recovering the way we hoped. We brought her back for fluids, medications, monitoring, and continued medical support.

Despite every effort, her little body continued to decline.

Yesterday, surrounded by love and dignity, Fiona was humanely euthanized at MedVet (thank you, Dora).

Not every story ends the way we hoped it will.

However our promise is that every animal deserves comfort. Effort. Compassion. Respect.
Someone willing to keep trying for them, if they're wanting to be helped.

That is what monthly giving makes possible.

Today begins MCP’s Week of Monthly Giving.

From May 11th through May 15th, every NEW monthly donor who joins our pack unlocks an additional $10 donation toward the animals of Chicago.

Goal: 100 new monthly donors, $1,000 unlocked immediately for lifesaving care

The real impact goes far beyond this week.

Monthly donors help us continue saying yes to medical care, prevention work, emergency support, foster care, TNR, transport, behavioral decompression, and the countless unseen moments rescue depends on.

A story of large baby birds (otherwise known as English Mastiffs) whose mama died.

April 1st.

We got the call.

Six mastiff babies needed somewhere to go. We were told they were being surrendered by a backyard breeder, their mamma had gone septic and passed.

The kind of situation that stops you for a second… and then you move, and with speed.

Hours later, the relinquishment was real.

A human named Michele said yes. Not to one. Not to two. To all of them. Within days, she opened her home and her life to six tiny beings who had just lost everything. That’s what this work looks like.

From there, teamwork carried them forward.
Dora stepped in on a day off.
Three babies made their way to our OG Lora.
Bottle feeding mamas, sleepless nights, round the clock care acting upon the kind of love that doesn’t ask questions, it just shows up.

These babies are six weeks old now.

Fluffy. Resilient. Learning the world from the ground up. They’re looking for mastiff experienced homes, ideally with another social dog in the household so they can learn how to dog from those who came before them.

Major respect and appreciation to the ones who stepped in, Michele, Lora, the bottle feeding mamas. Lifesavers like no other.

Thank you to @vcaavah for assisting and caring about these littles, and @playersforpits for knowing M is for Mastiffs.

Now it’s time for the next chapter!

Phase 1:
Showing up. Building relationships.
Starting partnerships with CHA. Creating access at a grassroots level, for community members and their pets.

Goldie Valentine, The Cat.
A community member of a loving family living in the community of CHA Wentworth Gardens.

Goldie is two years old.
Darling.
Social.
Loved deeply by her family, and cared for with intention.

Her dad told us, smiling, “She really loves tuna.”
Followed honestly by, “We don’t want 19 cats.”

That’s where MCP Outreach steps in.

We picked Goldie up, brought her to our veterinary partners, and made sure she got what she needed. Goldie is safe, supported, and surrounded by people who care. She’s spending the night recovering after her spay, and tomorrow, she goes right back home… where she belongs. Her family is already counting down the hours until they see her again.

This is the work.

Support. Prevention. Partnership.

We’re stepping into a chapter rooted in access and opportunity for the community members of this city who love their pets deeply and deserve the support to care for them.

Tuna
How it started ➡️ How it’s going

She came to us in crisis - in labor for three days, with two deceased puppies stuck in her birth canal.
Severely malnourished. Infected. In pain. Barely hanging on.
