Late post, 📸 @patrickheathphotography

There aren’t enough words to express the gratitude that we feel towards everyone who participated in the 1st year of “Wichita Forever Fest”. From the bands, to the visual artists, volunteers and sponsors. August 22nd was a day to remember. We hope you all felt special, appreciated and like you deserved to be on those stages just as much as anyone in this city. We really hope that our city feels proud of itself. Coming together to support one another should always be the goal. There doesn’t need to be a top dog. We really all can be there for each other ya’ll.

Special shout out to @patrickheathphotography. Thank you so much for helping bring the dream to life. Thank you so much for your hard work and dedication to seeing this thing finished to the end. Thank you so much for your love of the city. I hope you’re resting. If any of you see that boy working, (lovingly) tell that boy to go home and stop! Congratulations friend on a successful event.

A very special shout out to our team:
@dale.dotcom , @zofimuk , @emmettj.photo , @jenmarie_ict @kapten.band , @ictaudio, @amerkeldesign , @theethanharvey , @aarontowner , @tangerinepapi_ , @_taywall_ , @brimcbridemusic , @jjones.glass , @kallysperez , @lonb0n , @mysticleoine, @milk__choclat , @macie.schr5 , @yasmin.x.plascencia , @sophiaspiel

None of this would have happened without you all. (If I forgot anyone message me. I’m so sorry)

To our venues:
@kirbys, @nortonsbrewing , @riversidebohemianwichita , @tribalrootscollective, @midwestdrum , @drinkcsb , @harvesterarts , @thearcadewichita , @primetimewichita , @thefurnace.ks

There are literally so many of you that we have to make a separate post for you all. And that’s so beautiful to think about.

I was already traveling around to see artists that had found their way into my playlists.

Didn’t really have language for what I was building yet. I just knew certain sounds were worth following into different cities.

Funny looking back at where those roads eventually connected.

The first trip with just a carry-on.

Didn’t bring nun back
Left everything better than I found it.
But I found sum.

Elk.
Bear-sized porcupines with billions of needles & windburn that split my lips.

Bushwhacked 14k.
Forged the unpathed.
Earned a mountain.

Jack & I didn’t have spikes. The only ground free of eight feet of snow was the trailhead and the summit.

I bear crawled what felt like half the climb. Frozen hands grabbed stumps, trunks, branches — whatever the mf offered. The trick was staying close to the trees. That’s where the snow is softest. I’d punch through and suddenly find myself standing at the base of an entire tree buried beneath winter.

Five ridges.

Each one steeper than the last.

We reach the summit.

Loose gravel.
Dark stone.
An impossible view.

Annie, Jack’s hound, tried to save me from falling down a mountain.

Real patna.

We pulled into the hot springs exhausted.

Didn’t bring nun back.
Came home with sum.
