Thank you for joining us at Centre A for the sold out launch of Accumulations on September 19!

Accumulations is a collective zine launch and reading event organized by participants in Centre A’s 2026 Art Writing Mentorship Program.

Thank you to the summer mentorship cohort for participating and collaborating with us to develop their practice. A special thank you to Dr. Yani Kong for mentoring the 2026 summer cohort; Adam Arca, Aretha Pereira, Chimgee Mendee, kathy feng, and Maximilliano Chi Leung Alserda. This program leads with the intention to develop art writing and criticism, while working with a small cohort of Vancouver-based Asian-identified youth through weekly writing, peer reviews, talks and workshops with visiting professionals, one-on-one consultations, and visits to local galleries.

Mentees developed and refined skills for writing critically about the arts. These skills were cultivated by reading, researching, and analyzing a selection of readings that operates across the disciplines; and by workshopping our own writing and creative projects. Participants also worked on the production of two high-quality, peer reviewed pieces of critical and/or creative writing along with their zine.

Did you miss the launch but still want a copy of the Accumulations zine? You can still purchase them in our boutique!

𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗲: September 19, 2026
𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲: 6 – 8 PM PT
𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Centre A

𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀:
Adam Arca is a queer Filipino migrant rights organizer, writer, and cultural worker living on the unceded territory of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations (Vancouver, BC). A son to migrant workers from Bulacan in Luzon and Cebu in Visayas, their work is deeply informed by care and the archipelagic connections between anti-colonial and anti-imperial struggles from Turtle Island to the Philippines.

Aretha Pereira (she/her) is a South Asian writer, curator, and artist. Her work studies archival relationships, seeking to catalogue memory, history, and connection across bureaucratic structures of inclusion/exclusion.

Chimgee Mendee (she/her) is an artist, gatherer, and emerging curator from Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, based in so-called Vancouver. Her practice nestles in and around writing, event curation, graphic design, and illustration. She is inspired and propelled by the expression and action of community, how we come together, what we create for each other, and how we build with and for our full selves.

kathy feng (b. Guangzhou, China) is an interdisciplinary artist and arts worker, and is a guest living and working on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm, Skwxwú7mesh, and səlilwətaɬ Nations, also known as Vancouver, BC. As an immigrant and child of immigrants, she grew up in a constant process of learning, unlearning, and relearning. Her personal practice consists of blurry photos of the moon and fuzzy recollections of her dreams.

Maximilliano Chi Leung Alserda is a writer & poet from Hong Kong. He is based in Vancouver on the unceded lands of the Stó:lō, Tsleil-Waututh, Musqueam & Squamish nations. He wouldn’t be here without his family’s support.

The third source cited lecture is finally upon us! 🌟 This month we will be joined by Dr. Kelly McCormick, who is a historian of modern Japanese material and visual culture.

Kelly McCormick: “What do you do when you are told that someone did not exist in the past but you are certain they must have? In this talk I introduce a historian’s approach to critically engaging with the archive to find a way to tell stories thought to be impossible. Tracing “the woman photographer” in Japan from the 1930s to the 1970s I show how she was represented in the mass media, colluded with the Japanese government during World War Two, and worked to be recognized as a professional and protest systemic inequality in postwar Japan. In doing so I demonstrate how critically reframing the archive provides new possibilities for telling new stories in the present.”

Event Details:
Date and time: May 29, 6:30-9PM
***Location: Take Your Time Back (652 Kingsway, next door to 648 Kingsway)
Note: there will be drinks (non-alc included) available for purchase

Tickets are in the link in bio 🔗

Special thanks to @chim.dee for the poster design 💜
