A little bit of clay, a little bit of cooking, and a whole lot of connection: a collaborative workshop between @shachishah.studio x @chinitaspies 🍜🤎

Over two sessions, we came together to make our own noodle bowls: throwing, trimming, and decorating them before returning to find our finished glazed pieces and gathered with Christina for a wonderful noodle-making class!

We talked about the joy of communal cooking, the comfort of sharing meals, and the beautiful parallels between working with clay and preparing food. Both ask us to slow down, get our hands involved, embrace the process, and enjoy what we create along the way.

It was such a joy to see these two worlds come together around a shared table. Because sometimes, the best part of making something is the people you get to share it with. 🥢✨

Meet Chef Christina🌺
One of five incredible chefs joining us for our Luau Fundraiser! We’re so excited to have her bring her passion for seasonal, nourishing food to this unique culinary experience.

A San Diego transplant by way of San Francisco, Christina is a personal chef and food educator rooted in supporting local farms and California growers at every meal served. A graduate of University of California, Davis, in the area of Food Science, Christina has worked in various arenas of the food service industry including grocery, catering, hospitality, and corporate kitchen positions, and today she draws on all of those experiences to drive her events and classes across San Diego County.

We are so excited to co-create this year’s luau experience with Christina, bringing our guests on a unique culinary journey inspired by the land, the season, and the vibrant flavors of Hawaiʻi. Together, we’ll celebrate food as a way to connect, nourish, and gather in community all while supporting Shine’s mission through our annual fundraiser.

The love for ceramics, food, community and the art of plating homemade food on handmade ceramics led to this collaborative class with @chinitaspies at @ucsdcraftcenter 🍜

This is a special offering this fall, we will gather the first session to make noodle bowls of choice (demos for different kinds of bowls will be given!). We will return the next session to trim and decorate our pieces. After a firing break week, we’ll meet in the kitchen for a class led by @chinitaspies to make noodles! Imagine a noodle bar here and multiple iterations.

Registerations are open for this class on @ucsdcraftcenter website under ceramic studio! This class is limited to 8 students at a time only.

If you love clay, food, and community that gathers around a table, we would love to have you experience this with us.

There’s something special about enjoying a meal from a bowl you’ve made with your own hands, and this workshop is a celebration of that experience.

Moments from our 2-week ‘Summer Bowls & Seasonal Salads’ workshop that we wrapped up today! 🥗🫜We slab-built salad bowls in our first week and then returned to make salad, plate it and eat out of handmade bowls! It was my first collaborative workshop with Chef Christina (@chinitaspies , berrygoodfoodfdn) at @ucsdcraftcenter and it really was so much fun! Christina brought all the fresh produce and took over the kitchen next to @ucsdcraftcenter this afternoon for a delicious Salad Making session!

We’re excited about more such workshops in the upcoming quarter!!

After all, what’s better better than handmade vessels, fresh prepared food and the joy to share a meal together?
