Chiswick in west London has enjoyed a cultural and commercial renaissance in recent years - but September this year has been spectacular by any standards, not just because of the weather and the Chiswick Book Festival! As director of @chiswickbookfest I’d like to say thank you and congratulations to all who’ve helped make it a very special month in W4 - and give personal thanks to all the authors, publishers, audiences, volunteers, venues and partners who made this year’s Festival one of the most enjoyable yet. You can see ‘2026 Chiswick Book Festival in Pictures’ and read my article ‘Chiswick’s Spectacular September’ @chiswickcalendar - both linked in my bio.

@chiswickbookfest was exhausting, exhilarating, learned a lot, bought some (more).books. @torindouglas

Highlight, hitting the claxon on my last word at the local book authors evening - 2 minutes each (and dreaming about being at the grown up table one day, maybe next year).

Lowlight, hearing #nickclegg say he wasn't bothered about author's copyright, he wouldn't read @societyofauthors and #musiciansunion report, he hadn't read (or cared about) #carelesspeople, a damning indictment of #Facebook. He revealed himself to be one of those #carelesspeople. Very disappointing.

All power to Beeban Kidron and her campaign to make the Internet safer for children and protect creative copyrights.

Loved attending the talk by @essie_fox_author discussing her latest book, a re-telling of Wuthering Heights @chiswickbookfest last weekend ♥️

A busy weekend appearing alongside @janethynne_cjcarey and @alexgerlis at the @chiswickbookfest before interviewing Ben Macintyre about his superb new book, Redwood, the extraordinary story of a KGB officer in post-Revolutionary Iran who agreed to spy for MI6. Also found time to sign some copies of Icarus 17 at my local bookshop in Kew @kewbookshop as well as @johnsandoebooks courtesy of @siofraijd

So enjoyed the most impressive @chiswickbookfest with an illustrious programme. Delighted to be in conversation with @cookwithjopratt alongside co-founder of @sipsmith & double act writers/drink historians @mixellany2 @mixellany talking about true quality anchovies: where to find them: how to distinguish them; their taste profiles (& tasting sensational @conservas_pujado_solano butterflies anchovies) ; even their prodigious sex lives (thanks for that provocative question @stephen_cottage 🤭) from ‘Consider the Anchovy: a journey in pursuit of the little fish with the big flavour’ @headlinehome . Thank you very much to @torindouglas @ornaobrien for inviting me & to @lucycufflin for making some superb creative canapés incorporating Sipsmith botanicals. Lovely to see @elisabeth.luard in the audience & chat with @kitchenbee too. #books #literaryfestival #anchovies #foodie
