Painting cows 🐄 with an intention and mindful approach. We had an amazing time painting our dear cows from the Goshala @art.sanctuary.perth

We had a nourishing 2-hour painting experience, slowing down, opening up, and reminding ourselves of the power of creativity.

Next one happening on Monday 13th July. Check https://artsanctuary.org.au/ for more details.

What I once heard returns to me tonight: if we wish to experience the calling of silence, the quiet healing power of nature, we must step into a sanctuary that allows us to listen. That is what the Art Sanctuary offers. Not spectacle, but stillness. Not noise, but presence.

Tonight’s performance of Bhumejha carried that same elemental essence.

It was not about observing the outer forms of earth, fire, air, and water. It was about entering the spirit of each one. From the smoking ceremony that grounded us in ancestral memory, to the homa therapy where fire became prayer, to the gentle yoga walk and the quiet spaces by the river where breath and wind seemed to move together. Even the DJ and shared food at the end felt intentional, a celebration of community woven into the elements.

The performers and artists formed a rich tapestry of sound and movement. Their music did not merely fill the air; it resonated through it. There was a depth, a pulse, a reminder that nature is not outside us. It lives within us.

And for a few sacred hours, we were invited to remember.

Art is the only language.

The BhuMeJha Project at @perthfest brings South Asian and First Nations artists together. Suhayla Sharif (@suhayla.sharif) finds out why. Link in bio to listen or simply search for SBS Spice wherever you get your podcasts.

In 2016, for the Fringe Festival, we created this two-storey mural on SMV Beaufort Street Perth. It was a monumental undertaking, cherry pickers lifting us into the sky, artists working together, colour poured across brick, breath and courage stretched across height and scale. It was a collective act of creation.

Today, that wall has been desecrated with graffiti.

There is sadness in seeing something born of community energy altered without care. Yet I find myself asking a deeper question:

Can we work with graffiti artists instead of against them?

Is there a way to create dialogue, to preserve murals that carry story and intention, while also providing space for contemporary street expression? Can respect replace rivalry? Can collaboration replace defacement?

Public art lives in the tension between sacred and profane, permanence and impermanence. But preservation too is a form of dharma. Protecting collective effort is seva.

Perhaps this wall is not asking for anger, but for conversation.

What do you think?
Please comment.

"We hope to invite our audience into an experience, rather than to simply attend a performance. The immersive experience should stimulate all your senses! The schedule is designed to weave people into the ceremony, making them part of the experience rather than to simply be spectators."

Holly Ferguson speaks with dancer Sukhi Shetty about her involvement in The BhuMeJha Project coming to Perth Festival.

When worlds collide and stars collapse,
it is not only hydrogen burning itself into silence
somewhere beyond our seeing.
It is also a thought meeting its limit,
a belief shattering under the weight of truth,
a heart realising it cannot remain what it was.

The galaxies do this openly.
They crash, fold, die, and are reborn
without shame.
We do it quietly.
inside the chambers of the mind,
inside the soft, uncharted spaces of grief and longing.

We are not spectators.
We are made of the same grammar.
The calcium in our bones, the iron in our blood,
once belonged to a star that did not survive itself.
So when something collapses within you,
it is not metaphor. it is memory.

The mind is a cosmos with its own gravity.
Thoughts orbit.
Some decay.
Some explode into insight.
Some become black holes
where language can no longer pass.

So when i ask
Is it out there, or is it inside us?

The answer is gentler than logic:
there is no border.

What happens in the sky
is rehearsed in the soul.
What breaks in the soul
echoes across the sky.

You are not separate from the collision.
You are the place where it becomes conscious.
