3 states, 121 miles later! I survived my first bike packing trip with a ton of other trans people ⚧️ would do it again! Shoutout to Tyler, Hudson and Oliver for planning and organizing this trip and Neil for driving car support and making sure we had a kitchen and food for the weekend. 🌈 Pictures, a blizzard and a milkshake from Dairy Queen! And an ice cream from oink in new buffalo michigan! 🍨 🍦 the houses of the new century from the 1932 worlds fair! 🏠 Amish pies from Michigan city 🥧 the depot museum and art gallery in Beverly shores 🖼️ Neil and trying to get through a path with some friendly and noisy cranes walking alongside us 🦅 Neil eating a raw tomato in Michigan from a box of free produce we found on the side of the road 🍅

About last night.. I met up with a little group in Edgewater & rode to Logan Square for the @chitransauthority ride/night swim. Kyle brought the best vibes on our roll down to Logan, where I was surprised to see Kirsten, a good friend from Pilsen! I then surprised myself by noticing someone standing alone off to the side of the group and walking up to start a conversation with them. I used to be soooo shy and scared of human interaction, but Chicago has really boosted my confidence and allowed me to give myself grace enough to be weird or awkward if I’m weird or awkward. Before the ride got started, I found myself surrounded by the folks in HiVis vests in conversation, which prompted Dawn to ask if I would like to marshal with them! This is something I’ve considered doing on a few rides now, so my time had come! The ride went great! I did my part, enjoying corking, then blasting to the front to protect again along with Abigail! I forget how unique my riding style is until I get in a big group and get all the positive feedback, but it’s all just about having fun with bikes! Everyone made it to Hollywood Beach safely🫶🌊 Again, I surprised myself when V was feeling self conscious about going in undies, so without any thought, I just popped my shorts off to ease her mind and bring comfort in not feeling alone. Then, a group of like 6 of us went near the end of the pier & took the plunge all together in beautiful synchronicity. The water was perfect & I felt such relief, calm, comfort, strength, confidence, and so many positive feelings. Nothing else mattered in this moment, the pressures and weight of the world were no longer present and I felt at home and connected with these wonderful people, myself and the planet. Water has such miraculous healing powers! We hung out and chatted on the beach for a while, I even got to juggle with some light up juggling balls a bit! This has been both the best and worst year of my life. All I can do is be grateful for these moments and work to live in the present. Thank you @dawnphenomenom for leading us and making this night happen, many of us really needed it, some more than you could ever know. 💖
