Born from a month-long creative residency with Astray in Tokyo, 𝘗𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘰𝘴 is an independent guidebook for those looking to escape the tourist overwhelm of Shinjuku and Shibuya.

A curation of experiences centered on stillness, reflection, and immersion, it serves as a quiet roadmap to the neighborhoods and hidden corners where one can slow down and find a sense of peace amidst the urban life of the city.

We’re excited to share this moment from Alba which is now streaming on SBS On Demand, joining a slate of AFTRS student‑produced films reaching audiences across Australia.
Produced in 2019 as part of the Bachelor of Arts Screen: Production program, Alba film premiered at Flickerfest in 2021 and went on to screen at the Sydney Film Festival, Melbourne International Film Festival and Westpac Open Air Cinema. It was also nominated for Best Direction in a Student Film at the 40th Australian Directors’ Guild Awards.
Mariella Solano, the film’s writer/director, said: “I’m so proud of how far Alba has travelled. I believe Alba’s success speaks to the hunger for more cross-cultural stories. SBS is where I was first introduced to world cinema, and it is an absolute dream come true for a work of mine to find a home here.”
