Taking cues from The Moth and Johns Hopkins University Storytelling professor Dr. Shari Ross Altarac, among other storytelling experts, this workshop provides a platform for understanding the process of storytelling and getting hands-on experience expressing through the craft. Connecting with fellow attendees isn’t just the cherry on top but a way to build supportive community through the process of sharing and listening. We’ll address and answer the following questions:

1. Introduction: What is storytelling? How and why is it helpful for grieving and healing?
2. Story Elements: What does a relatable and compelling story include?
3. Story Structure: How does one craft an engaging story?
4. Telling the Story: From page to embodiment, how does one effectively share a personal story?
5. Feedback: With what did we most connect from your story? What drew us in and could be further explored? How did you feel while telling your story?

More than anything, this will be a kind space in which to spend time and feel supported. If participants don’t feel comfortable sharing, that’s totally okay. We’ll meet you wherever you are.

This virtual offering is available to all and is listed in the eastern time zone.

Led by Chloe Dolandis, a full time voice actor and is a graduate student in the Johns Hopkins University MLA program. Songwriting and singing have been foundational to her career, as well as TV hosting, and she feels most at home creating in multi-genre/interdisciplinary mediums. After winning her first StorySLAM at The Moth Atlanta and graduating from The Moth’s College Program she confirmed that storytelling was a modality that not only offered her a connected creative outlet, but also a brave space to heal.

20 years ago, Nickelodeon SPLAT hit the airwaves, to which throughout the summer of 2004, I tuned in to watch wacky and daring challenges as well as some entertaining hosts who helped made it fun. Fun fact: I once emailed the show expressing my appreciation for the show as well as the possibility of participating in it. However, my illness at the time threw a wrench in those plans :(

Nonetheless, I had lots of fun enjoying the show and making this fan art of the quartet taking a slimy selfie in the slime pit<3
