What an absolute joy it was to spend the summer touring Chicago parks with @midsommer.flight💚

I had the best time getting to play with everyone and bring Phebe to life. It was a privilege to be part of such an incredible team of artists and I’m so grateful for every single person who made this experience so special:)

The best summer I ever had.

In my diary, I wrote, "if Rosalind really was a cowgirl, she'd have a six-shooter that misfires all the time, but she never gets it fixed because it always shoots true." She reminded me to do it scared; to trust myself to figure it out; to listen closely and move quickly. Because it'll all shake out in the end, so what's the use of getting upset or being anxious if you believe it will go the best it can?

She was not perfect; she was a chaotic, unhealed Leo; an idealist, an optimist and a novice at everything. She believed in herself and her skills and she never looked back. While she was a fool in some ways, she was clear eyed and wise. She didn't know how to get it, but she was gonna get what she wanted, and grab it by both hands.

This was a team that cared about each other, protected each other, cheered each other on, complimented, laughed with, and most importantly, PLAYED. We PLAYED with each other all the time. We had so much fun trying to make each other laugh by being more and more ridiculous. The worst thing about us - as @hailey_piorek can attest, was that we loved all of our bits too much (we always added time).

Midsommer Flight is my artistic home because I believe in the joy that we make. I loved hearing people say it was their summer tradition or seeing how elated people looked leaving the park - and the people who stayed late with their own groups as the sun went down, warmed by community, connected to each other more than when they first sat down. Thank you to each and every one of you who came for joy. We left it on all the fields out there. I hope you got some.

I'll miss the Forrest of Arden so, so much.

We knew the sappy As You Like It post was coming!!!! I WISH, more than anything, that I had pictures with everyone, especially since this is the celebration of one of the best summers I’ve had in years. Thank you to every single person involved in this show. We had an incredible, record-breaking run, but more importantly I got to be surrounded by some of the most inspiring artists in this city.

We also had SO much fucking fun. Doing Shakespeare in the park allows you to spend time bringing joy to people, or, less eloquently, being an absolute fucking clown and encouraging each other to be sillier with every run. I learned so much from everyone’s earnestness.

Playing roles like Celia has affirmed for me that this is what I’m meant to do as a performer. Shakespeare’s canon has room for anyone who wants to perform it, regardless of what the norm has been before you. I can’t wait to continue exploring.

not pictured but the rest of the lovely people I got to play with, watch shine as understudies, and had the blessing to be guided and taken care of by: @hailey_piorek @triniti.isaida @cetongxue @_mjhandsome_ @alexanderpgarza @reallymattkeeley @robertwoodfrank @jeromemichaeljones @bethnwolf @the.prince_joshua

Thank you for your work: @mx.willwilhelm @angry_aloeplant @imperfectcourtney @jeremiahbarr4 @bryson.david.hoff. We quite literally could not have done this without you 🫶🏾

Farewell, Arden. I love this place, and have quite willingly wasted my time in it. 🥲💗💗💗 @midsommer.flight

LISTEN TO HOW AMAZING THEY SOUND BEHIND A CROWD OF 353 PEOPLE

and this is where Celia is exposed for not standing on business

💀

the most amazing part of this show was to share the stage with 5 other Black people (Jerome not pictured!!) in a play where none of us would be considered the “canonical” choice. fuck your Shakespeare elitism. Black people belong in this art
