Meet the 2026 recipients of the Matthew Choi Farmers Market Vendor Grant!

Congratulations to these local farmers and food business owners launching and expanding at Portland-area farmers markets:

💜 Arcoiris Exilir: This Peruvian-owned business brews a modern twist on Chicha Morada, a beloved ancient beverage. It is made from maiz morado (purple corn), a crop with origins in the Peruvian Andes and revered by indigenous people. Find them at PSU & King Farmers Markets.

🍕 Chonghi Pizza: Chonghi creates a sort of Neapolitan pizza - they say “sort of” because they stray a bit from the traditional standards. Their toppings draw on flavors from the many cultures the owners grew up with in Hawaii, plus the amazing produce available from local Pacific Northwest farms. Find them at PSU & Montavilla Farmers Markets.

🌶️ M.R. Farms: Owned & operated by a native of Oaxaca, this farm grows seasonal produce, flowers, and traditional foods of Latin America for their community and to share their culture with others. Using methods passed down through generations, they rely on manual tools and avoid herbicides and pesticides to maintain healthy soil. Find them at King & Rockwood Farmers Markets.

☕ SUNAO Coffee & Cacao: Owned & operated by a woman born & raised in Peru, SUNAO directly connects Peruvian producers of biodynamic coffee and cacao with consumers, offering fresh, sustainable, high-quality products. From farm to cup or bar, they manage every step to ensure authentic flavors while supporting farming communities. Find them at PSU, King & Vancouver Farmers Markets.

🍮 La Casa De Mamá: A Latina-owned, family-operated panadería offering delicious vegan pastries rooted in their family’s Mexican heritage. Their recipes draw on flavors, traditions, and memories passed down through generations. Find them at the Pearl District Culinary Farmers Market.

About the grant:
In loving memory of Matthew Choi, Choi’s Kimchi & Portland Farmers Market offers grant awards of up to $1,500 to support new food and farm businesses at farmers markets in the Portland Metro Area. Over 40 local business owners have received grants from 2023 to 2026.

🥳 May 2026 Food Highlights 🥳

With no travels this month, I enjoyed the transition toward warmer days here in Portland. Alongside that, many delicious bites were had across town, some in particular for my birthday this month! I am happy to see both new businesses open up and thriving while my favorite spots remain steady.

As usual, take care of each other and stay vigilant.

@theturningpeel - such a cute spot & they serve sourdough Neapolitan pizza

@chonghipizza - such unique flavor combinations on their pizza!

Thank you for trying our creation today! Big shout out to @chonghipizza @gdkimbap @kokomobilecafe @neemcoffeeproject for stopping by! Felt so supported with you all ( ,,◕ ̫ ◕,, )🩵

It was such a mellow day. The weather wasn’t too hot or too chilly, and the air felt so nice and crisp today!

Rose City Park Elementary School came on a field trip to Shemanski Park Farmers Market, and OH MY… they brought all their friends and kept us busy for a sec!

Thank you to all the kids who stopped by today =3 I don’t think they’ll see this post, but you guys made us laugh so much! Kids don’t lie and they can be brutally honest sometimes, and they were complimenting our drinks… that’s HUGE!! 🙂‍↕️💛

Our customers today were so diverse — from elementary school students, to travelers from Japan, to familiar old faces. Looking back, it really felt like such a lovely first day at the market 🎶

We will be here on every Wednesday, come say hi! 👋

Weekend eat/drink highlights!

My first visit to @chonghipizza which is @montavillafarmersmarket on Sundays. I ordered the CHONGHI pizza which I thought was very creative and quite delicious- gochujang cream sauce, garlic, mozzarella and provolone, crumbled pork sausage shoyu vinaigrette yellow and green onions, togarashi (photos 2 and 3) 🔥🔥🔥

It was my first visit to @montavillafarmersmarket too! Check out photos 5 thru 9 for a few of the vendors including one of my fav PDX bakeries- @taborbread (photo 8) #farmersmarket

On Saturday I stopped by @saravezapdx for @3floydsbrewing Zombie Dust (photo 11) - an “undead pale ale” as 3 Floyd’s put it 😂 @saravezapdx also has an excellent selection of beers with very helpful customer service. There is so much personality @saravezapdx including the bathroom (phptu 12) #beer

Also on Saturday I stopped by @tulipshoptavern for another killer Fri/Sat special - FIRECRACKER SHRIMP PO’BOY - an homage to NOLA’s Uglesich’s which opened in 1924 and closed in 2005. My go-to po’boys/poor boys are @parkwaypoorboys and @domilisespoboys 💕💕💕
