WOW YALL-I’m a California loving girlie now! Incredible time with the Pasadena Chorale and some very talented peers and highschool composers! We workshopped and performed our choral works and got to immerse ourselves in community. This whole opportunity was because of the CCCC and Jeff Bernstein/his team and our lovely hosts, and I’m forever grateful! Already missing everyone I’ve met this weekend, I love the Pasadena Chorale….check them out! YouTube video WILL be posted

Our annual young composers concert returns for its 10th year on Saturday, June 20 at 5:00pm at @pasadenapresbyterianchurch! 🌟

Join us for an inspiring evening featuring the world premieres of original choral works by local high school composers and collegiate composers from across the nation. Through a new partnership with @choralcomposition (The CCCC), @pasadenachorale is expanding the reach of Listening to the Future for the first time to showcase emerging collegiate voices alongside the program’s young local composers.

Reserve your free tickets at the link in our bio.

Listening to the Future is made possible in part by the Pasadena Arts & Culture Commission and @cityofpasadena Cultural Affairs Division.

Episode #11 - June 2025
This month, Steve explores the vital role of composers in the choral world. He highlights the growing support for composers within ACDA and shares valuable resources available on the ACDA website, including composition contests and online communities. The R&R Quick Pick features Jennifer Lucy Cook’s piece Time. Steve also takes us behind the mic of his sister podcast, Moveable Do, with special clips from past interviews with Saunder Choi, Jocelyn Hagen & Tim Takach, and Rosephanye Powell.

We also hear from Sammy Strent, founder of the Collegiate Choral Composition Community, and get a special treat—two student compositions from Steve’s own choirs, including a surprisingly heartfelt piece inspired by Dad Jokes. In “Did You Know?”, Steve updates us on upcoming regional conferences, the Julius Herford Prize, and the Between the Staves initiative. The episode closes with an influence story from Kent Jue, conductor of the Ragazzi Boys Choir.

Have a summer symposium or event to share? Let Steve know at acdapodcast@acda.org. And if you'd like to thank someone who influenced your musical journey, send in your story!

ACDA photo dump!
i got to go to my first national ACDA! honestly what a treat. warning, this is about to be a long-ish post lol:
what a wonderful week honestly. this week truly changed my life and made me feel so so damn inspired. it felt like I learned something new everyday, and was always constantly learning or being inspired and it felt so good being in a space where others share the passion for music the same way i do whether that be conducting, performing, or composing. i also got to meet so many of yall i have only ever talked to online and that was so cool getting to meet yall in real life! on top of that, getting to meet the composers i grew up on/currently perform was AMAZING. (Yay Ola Gjello and Erik Esevalds!).
I’m especially grateful to my cohort for the New Cannon Project. Thank you to my cohort, @msallyssajones, @robynhilger, @risingtidemusicpress, @acda_nation, and especially @mariesabelvalverde for making all of this possible and encouraging me and being in my corner! i feel so so renewed and ready to take everything I’ve learned and continue to grow as a composer, vocalist, and educator!
