Revolutionizing the ukulele for the Revolution ✨

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Browne describes himself in two ways: “delicately painted acoustic prose” and “post-modern music with a frangible edge.” If that sounds vague, that’s the point: Let the music speak for itself, he says. Labels won’t make a difference either way, he explains.
Speaking of what he loves about our corner of southeast Atlanta, Browne remarked, “[It has] this great bond of community spirit. It’s not about you or me, it’s about us.” He is excited to bring his message of humanity and connection to one of the many places he has grown to love throughout his long and rich career.
Find more about Andy and his musical and other projects at https://andybrowneofficial.com. His most recent single, the heartfelt ballad “The Dummy in Me,” has a great video that displays Browne’s penchant for the visual medium (he has worked for years in lighting and video production). Of the song, Rough Draft Atlanta’s Sammie Purcell described it as “a reflection of the growth [Browne has] experienced both professionally and personally over the years.”

Eddie's Attic Singer Songwriter Open 🎤 Monday's.
My first time at this location. The sound is great! I loved that the night was understood as a listening room, not a place to chit chat, but a place to respect the music everyone worked so hard to write.
The talent was endless, and it I wanna kick myself for not being able to stay to the end to find out who won the night.
Listen in on some of the music that sparked our senses tonight. Who would you choose to win?
Follow @eddiesattic for all the details on how to sign up.

The Nightporters came up during an especially vibrant period in Atlanta music, and you shared stages with artists including The Clash and R.E.M. Looking back now, what stands out most about those early years?
These days my only concern is with the now.
I try my best not to look back. I’m not particularly fond of discussing my first band. That was a long time ago. I’m not the same person now.
However, getting a thumbs-up from Joe Strummer backstage at The Fox in Atlanta as a pup, after opening for The Clash, was like getting a musical blessing from Jesus.
He said to me, “Great show, Andy.”
Nothing will top that. Maybe, just maybe, going fishing with Bob Dylan would come close.
R.E.M. are very cool folks, all of them. Peter in particular took an interest in my songwriting. Great guy.
Browne has previously recalled Peter Buck telling him during his Nightporters days that even if the band did not ultimately make it, Browne himself would someday. At the time, it was not exactly what he wanted to hear because The Nightporters meant everything to him. Looking back, he now sees the comment differently.
“I think he kind of called the shot,” Browne said. “Maybe he saw the future before we did.”

You know it’s kinda funny
Said she don’t like money
But spends it
Like it’s going out of style
She’s always late
So I learned to paint
With patience, virtue
And guile
She’s my little cheerleader
Mess with me she’ll kill ya
And leave you
Bleeding in the aisle
Now, I ain’t no Shake sphere
No Romeo or King Lear
But I do believe
Juliette has arrived
Her texture is finer
Than the Blue Willow China
That she breaks
Just like a little girl
No one is stronger
In defending my honor
I’d gladly give my life
To save her's
She’s my little cheerleader
Mess with me she’ll kill ya
And leave you
Bleeding in the aisle
Now I ain’t no Shakesphere
No Romeo or King Lear
But I do believe
Juliette has arrived
I do believe
Juliette has arrived
Do believe
Juliette has arrived

“There is a grit and punk edge to his songs yet a presence of loss as well, heartache and self punishment thrown in for good measure”.

Couldn’t have wished for a better birthday Gig.
CRITIC’S PICK: Sat., Sep. 5-Sun., Sep. 6. Railroad Earth—ATL, the venerable multi-disciplinary arts production and presentation organization, is hosting an art/music fandango called Revolution Ball. The two-day affair will feature artwork, films and musical performances by a slew of Atlanta artists. The Ball also serves as a birthday bash marking another trip around the sun for Andy Browne, singer-songwriter, YouTuber about town (‘Andy Browne’s Acoustic Underground’), founding member of The Nightporters and, more recently, Lynx Deluxe.
The music portion of the Revolution bill include Browne along with W8ING4UFOS, Five Eight, DQE à la carte, Deisha Oliver, Wes Ables, Art Linton, Travis Hill, Dave Ward and Adam Klein. Featured artists include Maurice Clifford, Lisa Shinault, Anna Trodglen and Railroad Earth co-founder Neil Friedied. Film screenings include ‘BenJenny,’ a 16mm film “starring” Benjamin Smoke and Jennifer DeNike with live soundtrack.

Based in the former Ar'lyn Worth private elementary schoolhouse in Emory Village, Railroad Earth is set up for inside and outside performances with plenty of room to install artwork of all shapes, sizes and materials. If the underground/experimental/alt-indie music and art scene is unfamiliar territory, the Revolution Ball presents an excellent opportunity to see and hear what it’s all about. And don’t forget to say “happy birthday” to Andy. – Doug DeLoach
