Mardi Gras is a roller coaster. High highs, low lows.
I wouldn’t change it for the world though 🖤

Mardi Gras Look 1: Boat Party
For our first night celebrating Mardi Gras, I wore a silk satin set and matching leather bumbag from the Vintage 2025 collection. It is one of the most viewed looks from that season, and I wanted to show it as it exists now, on my body as it is. I am currently around a size 18 to 20, and that felt important to acknowledge. Not as a disclaimer, but as a statement. The set was designed with fluidity and ease in mind, and I wanted to demonstrate how it moves on a fuller body. No reshaping. No hiding. Just the set, doing what it was made to do.

It also felt right for the moment. We are currently in Vintage 2026. The whites are being picked. The region is humming. Wearing white wine to a Mardi Gras boat party was my quiet nod to my wife, who was home deep in harvest. The life of a winemaker does not pause for Gay Christmas. Every time someone stopped me to ask about the set, I made sure to tell them that. The fabric might read as fashion, but it also carried the rhythm of the Riverina in peak season.

There is something about wearing your own work into a queer celebration that feels grounding. The cut is relaxed but deliberate. The silk catches light differently on water. It softens in humidity. It creases. It lives.

For hair and makeup, @emmalucianohmua brief was 90s grunge. Charcoal eyes. A bold lip. Wet look hair. It had been torrential rain all day, right up until the moment we stepped onto the boat, so the wet look directive felt unintentionally method. The atmosphere did half the styling for us.

The whole look sat somewhere between polish and undone. Silk, paired with smudged eyes and storm-soaked hair. It felt like the perfect way to begin the weekend. Celebratory, slightly chaotic, deeply personal.

A boat full of queer joy. A suit from last year’s harvest. And the rain clearing just in time.
