@coupeicare 2026 was a success all around for us.

It was great catching up with old friends and making plenty of new ones. One of the big highlights was watching hundreds of pilots flip through our photo books with smiles on their faces.

Our showcase would be nothing without our talented photographers. Their work behind the lens, and sometimes from the air, is unmatched, and we’re lucky to have them capturing our destinations so well.

On a hot summer Sunday in August we hiked up nearly 7 miles to paint Bench 6 on Kennedy Ridge with eco-glitter, installed a plaque for @kelliestandish and @eucalyptical , delivered 210 pounds of water (25 gallons), and ran down. Thanks to Mike Gourley and @benvanderkar for the logistical support and making this happen!

On the cover of Explorers Magazine — Issue 2, from @polarlatitudes. 🇦🇶

The story behind the shot: to get this, I peeled off my down parka, pulled on a dive mask, and had Chris Lorimer grip my belt and pants while I plunged headfirst into the freezing Antarctic water every time this curious leopard seal came over to inspect us on the zodiac.

I told Chris: if I pass out from the ice-cream headache, just haul me back into the zodiac and sure we got the shot, otherwise you and John have to go in the water next.

Three, four dunks, each one right up to the edge of what I could handle, hoping we’d gotten it. It wasn’t until we were back on the ship — thawing out in the warmth of the cabin — that we finally saw it: the suffering, the tenacity, and the problem-solving had paid off.

Seeing it on the cover brings a big smile to my face.

So… I’m an ultramarathon runner now! 50 miles ✅

Do I have a running background? No.
Had I ever raced a 50k, a marathon, or even a half marathon? Also no.
Am I a glutton for suffering? Maybe a little 🫠

I finished the PCT and decided 50 miles sounded… healing? Unhinged? Both?

The truth is: the PCT gave me a new threshold for discomfort, a new relationship with my body, and a kind of focus that feels rare in modern life. I wanted to stay tethered to that.

So I trained for 12 weeks and ran the Avalon Benefit 50 on Catalina Island. I met the pain cave. I met my mind. And I crossed the finish line feeling like a door opened.

So yeah. I guess I’m an ultra runner now.
