Week 8, you heard that right!

Had ourselves a bit of a slower and more chill week this week, taking two unexpected rest days to allow our bodies and bikes to get back to tip top shape.

We started our week off fairly bittersweet. We hit the highest elevation of our whole trip (Boreas pass at 11,482ft!) with our near and dear @ella_peterson. She took her post as mother hen and kept us fed and in such good spirits… and maaan she ruled the roost and rode all the way up to the pass with us!! Ella’s the sweetest badass out there and we miss her dearly. We said our farewells, scarfed down our bagged tunas, and headed down the mountain with @downhill_both_ways and @malejcunik . What a glory ride: a rainy descent (that took a few of Vojtech’s eggs hostage) with some rolling hills at the bottom that dropped us off at a fire pizza shop in the middle of no man’s land.

There exists an unspoken magic that the isolation of being on trail provides, where the friends made along the way seem to burrow themselves into your heart a little deeper. Or perhaps it is just the sheer kindness and charisma of these two wonderful individuals that brought a sincere familial feel to our journey. We are so grateful to have shared the time with you both, we’re rooting for you as you work your way to the border (you too @very__odd <3)!

After a tough goodbye, we immediately found it hard to motivate ourselves again. We spent a day and a half in Salida, the coolest little mountain town, and finally beat getting sequestered as we rolled out of there around 3PM. We took on two half days of riding before hitching a ride with two very Christian donkey ranchers who very kindly let us stay in their barn and drove us to Pueblo after many a Bible verse quoted. Ever since, we have been in Pueblo enjoying some good ol rest time with @chrisboling_ before we hit the plains, which we are genuinely terrified for. Temps are looking just under 100°. Errr yeah. We’ll keep ya posted!! Unless of course we melt into the pavement.
