SURPRISE to Las Vegas Motor Speedway Front Desk Receptionist, Staci McBride for being selected as this month's "Vegas Stronger Champion" by the very generous KTNV Channel 13 Las Vegas & Findlay Auto Group.

Nominated by SCC Las Vegas Director, Paulette Anderson, Staci has been a true cheerleader and volunteer for SCC for 15 years. She's volunteered on weekends and in dozens of roles to support the children's charity mission to assist local children in need.

BTW - she thought the story was about local receptionists! Got ya!

Part 1/3- Long post alert 🚨 I realized I shared this update on Facebook but never posted it here, and since I plan on using IG more (and have a lot of friends here who aren’t on FB), I wanted to clear everything up in one post. There are still plenty of moments from last year I’ll share later, but unfortunately this story starts with a life-changing event.

Back in August, I had a seizure so severe it landed me in the ER. An MRI revealed a fist-sized oligodendroglioma tumor that had been growing in my right frontal lobe for quite some time. Within hours of arriving at Barrow, I was in surgery with one of the top neurosurgeons in the world. They achieved a 92% resection (the benchmark is 90%), which was incredible news. I did have serious complications, though. I remained in the ICU for nearly a month in a medically induced coma due to repeated seizures during surgery and while they were trying to wake me. I was on a ventilator, feeding tube, developed pneumonia, and required a bronchoalveolar lavage to clear my lungs. Lost an entire month of life and it still feels surreal.

The good news: I moved through rehab faster than expected. Physical, occupational, and speech therapy teams were amazing and got me home earlier than projected. Being in the gym 6x a week and paddleboarding regularly absolutely helped speed up recovery. My left-side movement had a long way to go after surgery, but it’s nearly back to normal now. I can’t say enough good things about Barrow. I’m back to playing guitar daily and hoping to get back on the paddleboard soon. I miss my paddle fam big time.
