Chicago, you were a blast! 🇺🇸

My third time visiting Chicago and it never disappoints.

Another city, another marathon, supporting @chrisdfellowes running the @chimarathon. Ive never seen such a supportive community for all the runners. From an amazing expo to local businesses offering freebies all weekend. The city really embraces running culture! 🙌🏻.

Watched the Chicago Bulls in action, caught up with some friends, had a beach day, walked everywhere and ate plenty of amazing food! 🙌🏻🏀 🏖️ 🍹🥞🍔.

RACE DEBRIEF: Chicago Marathon 2026 ⭐
Still in two minds about this result.
Finishing with an official time of 3:15 was a great PB and over three minutes quicker than my London Marathon earlier this year.
Training was super consistent with higher mileage, ticking all the boxes is something I’m proud of with this one.
I would definitely have been delighted with 3:15 at the start of my training block. However, as things progressed, I really felt I could be pushing closer to 3:10 which is what I programmed ahead of race day.
What I couldn’t control though, was record October temperatures for Chicago, and whilst the race started coolish around 16 degrees, it soon got over 21 degrees mid race and things started to get hard for me.
Seeing my pace drop off is not something I’m delighted about, and I would love to have been able to hold on for closer to 3:10, but I have to take the positives that I’m definitely moving in the right direction. Being able to comfortably sustain such a good pace for me in the first 30km was a great feeling, like everything just clicked. Could I have handled it better as the sun came out? I don’t know.
Not to mention the challenges I experienced with sleep on this transatlantic event, my body was all over the place.
Either way, it was a pleasure to run around such a great city, Chicago was marathon crazy for the whole weekend and everyone made you feel like a hero. I’d run it again in a heartbeat.
As always, thanks to the dynamic duo from @teameliterunning for pushing me harder and believing in me.
Focus turns to NYC Half and London Marathon in 2027.✌🏼

Yes, even personal trainers eat burgers, drink and dance at weekends! 😂💃🏼🍹

A question I often get asked is ‘I’ve got a busy social life and I don’t want to give that up. Can I still lose weight/build muscle?’

No, you don’t have to stop socialising and yes you can lose fat and make gains in the gym, however, you need a plan in order to achieve this.

Here are a few tips:

1. You want to make sure you’re eating sensibly during the week. Tracking macros via My Fitness Pal is a great way of keeping on top of your diet and ensuring you’re eating enough of the right foods.

2. Alternate between low and high carb days so having lower carbs on the days you’re not training and higher carbs on the days you are.

3. Prioritising protein, especially on the day you are going out. Filling up on veg will help keep you fuller for longer.

4. Staying active as much as you can. Weight training will help raise your metabolism for up to 48 hours after you train so get that workout in!

One bad day of your diet won’t ruin consistency and hard work in your training but consistent bad days will definitely hinder your progress!
