Our last full day in the Tetons was spent hiking around Jenny Lake. We wanted to see Hidden Falls and were planning to take the boat across the lake, but the line was so long that we decided to hike instead.
On the way, a guy passed us and mentioned there were lots of moose by the pond. I thought, what pond? We checked the map and, sure enough, there was a pond ahead… Moose Pond. Lol, who would’ve thought?
We made a little detour and found three cow moose and one baby! We kept our distance from the baby because we didn’t want to upset the cows, but we got to watch one of them graze underwater for almost an hour.
I’m SO glad that guy told us about the moose because otherwise we would’ve missed them. It was our last day and I was starting to think we weren’t going to see any. Of course, I had to tell everyone else on the trail about the moose too.
Hidden Falls was absolutely incredible, and on the way back we stopped to jump off a big boulder and swim in the lake for a bit. The water was FREEZING, but it was so refreshing.
It was the perfect way to end our trip.
The next morning, we woke up extra early to watch the sunrise over the Tetons. The entire mountain range was glowing pink, and it was such a beautiful way to say goodbye and head home. 🏔️✨

The final destination of our trip was the Tetons… and they did not disappoint! 🏔️

Since rain was in the forecast all day, we decided to spend our first day exploring Jackson instead of hiking.
We were staying at Colter Bay Campground, and I swear we stopped about 100 times on the way to Jackson because the mountains looked different every few feet.

Between the changing perspectives as you travel and the way the light shifts throughout the day, it feels like you’re seeing a completely different mountain range every time you turn around.

We stopped at Jenny Lake along the way, and it was so beautiful. We knew immediately we had to come back and hike the trail the next day.

And Jackson? Absolutely adorable. I loved the whole Western vibe. Chris and I were both thinking the same thing…
Should we get hats and boots? 🤠

Yellowstone Day 2 🦬

Day two in the park was all about rainbow geysers and some much-anticipated wildlife!
We started the day walking the boardwalk around Grand Prismatic Spring, a massive, rainbow hot spring that looks almost unreal.
Chris was eager to see Old Faithful, so we grabbed some lunch while we waited for its next eruption. Unfortunately, we had to wait almost 2 hours. Considering it erupts every 60–90 minutes, we somehow managed to time it about as badly as possible. 😂
After the long-awaited eruption, we headed over to the West Thumb Geyser Basin to check out some more colorful hot springs and geysers. This area was extra beautiful because the boardwalk runs right along Yellowstone Lake, which is absolutely massive.
On our way back to camp, we noticed a bunch of cars pulled over along the road and several people standing around looking at something. Of course, we had to pull over too. There was a bull elk! This was our first close-up wildlife encounter since arriving, so I was pretty excited to get some pictures.
While I was taking photos, a man came and stood next to me and started making elk noises. It seemed to have absolutely zero effect on the elk, but he was clearly convinced he was helping me get some good shots. 😂 I appreciated the effort, though! Eventually, almost everyone standing there was making elk noises, while the elk himself could not have cared less. He just steadily grazed, barely lifting his head the entire time.
After leaving the very unimpressed elk, we drove past some bison and spotted one with some cute sagebrush accessories hanging from its horn.

We left Montana and headed into Yellowstone, where we stayed at Canyon Campground - by far the most beautiful campsite I’ve ever stayed at. It was especially magical in the mornings, when the sun rays filtered through the fog left behind by the nighttime rain.

Chris and I were very entertained by the ravens that seemed to be everywhere in the park. They’re huge, incredibly loud, and apparently have no respect for sleeping schedules because they woke me up every morning lol.
We packed a lot into our days at Yellowstone. Our first day took us to the Upper and Lower Falls, Mammoth Hot Springs, and the Lower Geyser Basin.

My first trip to Yellowstone was 16 years ago, when I was 13 years old, and that trip sparked my love of photography in a way I didn’t yet understand. I was officially designated the family photographer and I took that responsibility VERY seriously lol.

Coming back all these years later and experiencing this place alongside Chris was so much fun. It was also really special to share photos from this trip with my family as they sent old photos from our family vacation.
Slide 6 shows me at 13 next to the Upper Falls, compared with me standing in the same spot all these years later. It’s one of those little moments that makes you realize just how much time has passed and how some places can stay with you for a lifetime.

Chris and I kept imagining what it must have been like to discover a place like this without any expectations to prepare you for it. Even today, the diversity of Yellowstone’s landscape is almost incomprehensible. Around every corner, the scenery changes completely. To see Yellowstone for the first time must have been absolutely mind-blowing.

🏔️Montana Day 2

After 16 hours of sleep and recovery from the 8 mile hike the day before, Josh asked the big question: “Are you guys up for another long hike today?”
Margo let out a howl, which I think answered the question for all of us. Of course we were! We didn’t come all the way to Montana to sit on our butts!

We checked the weather and saw a storm was headed our way. We had originally planned on doing an afternoon hike, but decided it was best to get moving and try to beat the storm.

The plan was to hike up to 10,000 feet and make our way to Glacier Lake.

We were definitely in a bit of a rush at first, trying to stay ahead of the weather. But, thankfully, the clouds cleared and the sun came out as we neared the lake. Perfect timing!

Along the way, we had to cross a creek - which felt a lot more epic than it probably looks in the video. I definitely felt pretty cool doing it.

Once we reached the lake, Chris took a nap, Josh smoked his pipe, and I took pictures of Margo. This was quickly becoming somewhat of a pattern for us on these hikes.
The water was unbelievably pristine, so naturally, we all had to put our faces in for a little mountain-water refresher.

🔍 zoom in on slide 17 and let me know if you can find the fisherman 🎣

Our first morning in Montana started at 5 AM. We had to wake up early to begin our hike to Moon Lake, which sits at 10,500 ft.
The goal was to reach the lake in the first photo by the time the sun rose over the mountain tops. Being up at that elevation so early in the morning was such an interesting experience. The sunlight, the massive fields of boulders, the absence of other people, the completely unobstructed sky - it all made me feel like we weren’t on Earth anymore.

Watching Margo dominate this terrain was pretty incredible too. She was doing a perimeter sweep the entire time, looking for bears, moose, and any other living thing. She definitely had our backs… and our fronts, and our sides lol. It felt like we had our own wolf guiding us out here.

This was by far my favorite part of the trip. The whole thing felt a little bit like our own Lord of the Rings journey - wandering through this massive, otherworldly landscape.
But if Chris and Josh are Sam and Frodo… who does that make me? 😂

Our next stop was Montana! ⛰️

We met up with Josh & Ciara in Red Lodge and followed them to their campsite in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness.

The campsite was stunning, sitting right at the base of the mountain along a creek, just a short walk from the trail we would be hiking the next morning.

We set up camp, played with Nelly & Margo, and prepared for an early morning ascent.

It was pure magic out there. Stars so close you can almost touch them, the best sleep I’ve had in years, and top-tier company to share it with.

Where do I start?
It’s been a week since we got back from our two week camping trip and I’ve somehow condensed 8000 pictures and 14 days of experiences into a few Instagram posts. So I guess here is the first of many.

Our first campsite was at the base of Devils Tower (Bear Lodge).

On our way there, we had to pass through Sturgis and realized the 86th annual Motorcycle Rally was in full swing.

The rally draws about 500,000 bikes from all over the country every year.

So we took a little detour and spent a few hours oggling at thousands of motorcycles.
The bikes were cool and the energy was weird iykyk.

After 16 hours of travel, we finally arrived at our campsite. There were motorcycles all over the area. So many that they had to shut down the campsite we originally planned to stay at!

At the base of the tower, there’s a 40-acre roadside colony home to roughly 600 black-tailed prairie dogs!

We spent a good amount of time laughing at them. They were very friendly - likely because people feed them bread 😬

We had a hot meal at the cafe and signed up for a hayride that goes around the ranch where the campsite sits.

On the hayride we learned all about the lore surrounding the tower. Our guide gave us a very long-winded story regarding the filming of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Which Steven Spielberg filmed there in the 70s. He actually paid for all of the infrastructure to be built for the campground in exchange for permission to film on the property.

We saw this beautiful sunset peaking through the clouds & haze as we ended our hayride.

The next morning we woke up bright & early so we could take the trail all the way to the base of the tower.

Can you see me?
It’s hard to convey just how big this thing is! It stands 867 feet tall, which is almost 3x taller than the Statue of Liberty.

Despite the odd alien association and somewhat concerning name, the tower holds deep spiritual ties for local Native American culture.

For centuries, maps identified this sacred place as Bear Lodge, reflecting the Lakota name Mato Tipila. The name “Devils Tower” emerged in the late 1800s after an expedition reportedly mistranslated the Indigenous name
