✨About the other night!✨

So grateful to have been part of @ashleyinezz beautiful film. Walking onto that set as a young actress, I didn’t know what to expect — but every single person made me feel comfortable, seen, and welcome. @natalie_benally @worldsshittiestindian @razellebenally That means everything when it’s so hard to feel like you belong in this industry as a young indigenous girl.

And to see “The Light That Stays” take home SEVEN awards?! 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆 Beyond deserved. I’m in awe of this team.
- Best Film
- Best Cinematography (@razellebenally )
- Best Lead Performance (@natalie_benally)
- Best Screenplay
- Best Director (@ashleyinezz)
- Best Sound
- Audience Award

Hope this is the first of many projects together. My heart is full 💜.

Every moment of the IndigenousWays Film Festival broke open our hearts and fed our spirits in the most beautiful of ways. 💛

The transcendent healing of our feature films, the profound perspectives of our student works, the powerful voices of our panels - we’ll carry the stories and connections from this weekend with us, always.

Thank you to every soul who joined us in ceremony for this event; to everyone who embraced their vulnerability, whether you presented on center stage or allowed your heart to feel the depth of our shared histories. You all have our gratitude for creating this moment where we held each other in commUNITY.

We can’t wait to see you at our upcoming festivals this year, and next year at the third annual Film Festival 🫶🏽

During my year at the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA), I took Sound For Film back in Fall 2021 taught by @jhbrierley I remember I wasn't excited for it but I learned interesting things in that class. After I finished that class, whenever people would say they needed a sound person. I volunteer just because I knew how to set up the sound equipment.
Then one time in a different class @kahlilhudson blew my mind by telling everyone that every film student wants to be the director or the camera person. 🤯 This meant that Sound isn't always the first choice for film roles, it's either overshadowed or underrated in the film industry. It felt like the Sound person was the lowest job in filmmaking. Which is weird because Sound is supposed to be the most important thing in film! This made me like the Sound role better because of how it was treated.
So, since then when people would ask "Who's gonna be Sound?" I proudly raise my hand with no hesitation. This gave me a reputation of being the Sound guy of IAIA 😁 I was proud of it, I even volunteered to strangers I didn't know at IAIA. I'm glad I did because this is how I meant all the amazing talents here at IAIA, and I'm glad I met and worked with everyone here at IAIA.
What's interesting is that I even play sound/music in the background when I'm doing tasks including film production. I don't why, it feels weird when it's too quiet for me. There was one moment in @brandonmtz.film production shoot. When one of the film crew was looking for me. Someone said "Just follow the music" I don't know why but I like that. It feels fitting for me 😄
As a kid I wanted to make Horror movies, now I'm surprised I changed my goal to being the Sound Person/Boom Operator. Even though I'm still learning, I can always learn more about it.
I love to thank Justin for making me find my passion in Sound. I'm happy for helping film students capturing their sound for their films. To quote @maestro_kendrick "I'm always consistent with it" If anyone needs a sound guy, just contact me on Instagram or email: chrisjrios10@gmail.com. I'll be your Sound Person for your film project.
Sound Speeding.....😁 🎧🎙️📽️🎬

OMG, I just finished filming a couple weeks ago with @ashleyinezz , and it was an absolute blast! 🎥✨ Seriously, working with such a talented crew and the amazing @razellebenally was a dream come true. Plus, my co-star/mom @natalie_benally is sooo inspiring—not just in acting but also in dance! I had the best time ever and can’t wait to see how it all turns out. Fingers crossed we get to work together again in the future! 🙌

I had an absolute blast working on @ashleyinezz senior thesis film these past two weekends. As an actor, I always love working on these types of projects because you learn so much in such little time. And as someone who values the discipline of acting so much, every time you get a chance to work on your craft should be valued and utilized to its fullest. Aheéheé Ashley for this wonderful opportunity to be in my acting bag! ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you to the wonderful crew behind this beautiful film and story! I can’t wait to see it all together! @razellebenally @fuzvision @antonioisthegoat @chrisjrios10 @coho.keesh @lilnative7 , Michael, Whitt, and Sam! Also special shout out to my wonderful and talented costars @lil.dancer_nyasimoneeteeyan and Montana Miller. You both were such a joy to be around and I hope we get to work together again in the future! 🙌🏾
