Sometimes the life you’re deeply grateful for can still look very different from the one you imagined.

I have a wonderful life—a loving, supportive husband and two healthy, beautiful, creative, kind and smart kids. I’m not complaining. But depression doesn’t inventory your blessings or ask whether your feelings make sense. It just shows up.

I was a career woman through and through. As a little girl, I didn’t play mom or imagine my wedding; I pictured leading teams, climbing ladders and building something of my own.

Then I met my husband, whose zest for life showed me I could be ambitious and strong alongside someone. I fell in love with building a life together—helping him grow his career and business while he helped me grow mine. When mother/parenthood came, I thought it was something else we would learn, grow and build together.

What I didn’t expect was how completely motherhood would effect me. I was severely ill during both pregnancies. After working through pregnancy, postpartum and another debilitating pregnancy, I left my career to figure out what came next.

Then came my second bout of postpartum depression. I recognized the signs and got medical help, but also knew I needed something of my own. I adored my family, yet had lost a career identity that had always been a huge part of me.

So on January 3, 2020, I promised myself I would do something just for me….

Over six years, fitness became my outlet, my stress relief and a way to find pieces of myself again. Whether I had five, 20 or 45 minutes, that time mattered. Once I realized how much it changed motherhood for me, I wanted to help other moms find that space—not as something they “should” do, but as permission to choose themselves.

So this HYROX race is about more than strength. It’s another chance to build and grow—and hopefully show another mom she can, too.

After today’s workout, it occurred to me:

No one needs me to do this.
No one is making me do this.
No one is asking anything of me.

I spent much of my 30s finding myself again as a mom and wife. Now, weeks from 40, I get to do this for one reason:

Because I want to.

And that means more to me than I can explain!

1% better every day.

One more push. One more rep. One more step forward.

That’s the work. That’s the standard.

Push hard. Get stronger. Show up. Repeat.

Day 32/93.

I get asked why I decided to do HYROX when I’m usually the person reminding everyone that movement doesn’t have to be extreme to count.

And I still believe that. I believe in recovery, listening to your body and moving because it supports your life—not because every workout needs to destroy you.

So why this?

Maybe it’s because, after having kids, I’ve finally reached a place where I feel strong—and I want to find out just how strong I am. Maybe it’s because I love a goal and a challenge. Honestly, I’m still figuring that part out.

What I do know is that these Thursday workouts are really freaking hard. Today was a complete 🍑 whooping.

But I also leave feeling incredibly proud—and curious. Curious about how to help my body recover, how to fuel it better, what I can improve and what it might be capable of next week.

This body has survived extreme sickness during pregnancy, postpartum depression and the identity shift that came when I was no longer the career woman I had always known. It has carried babies, toddlers and growing kids up and down the stairs. It has changed a million times—and now I get to see what else it can do.

Yes, part of me is already excited to eventually return to workouts that take up less space in my brain and fit more freely into my schedule.

But 32 days into this challenge, I already know I’m capable of more than I thought.

That’s why I keep filming.

So one day I’ll have proof that this was hard, that it challenged me, that it built my confidence—and that I really did it.
