ruff club @ the annex, october 20, 2006

we're getting the old crowd back together. comment "RSVP" and i'll send you the official reunion invite.

this one was micprobes' birthday, and the usual cast was in the room: denny le nimh, spencer product, 24court, mike nouveau, sean fightcats, sophia lamar, ian cogneato.

ruff club was spencer and denny's friday night at the annex. rave meets rock, glow sticks and a smoke machine upstairs, rock records in the basement. it got a best new party nod at paper's nightlife awards. the annex was 152 orchard, the darkroom's sister bar, and when it closed in 2009 ruff club closed the place out.

leigh lezark of the misshapes is in here twice. i'm in one near the end too. i love this photo of me, i don't recall who took it. anyone remember?

Day 2 of Jasper takes of the IG…
Nikki Sneakers has been a HUGE part of the bar kinda from the start. De facto photographer, bartender and mastermind behind Nothing Changes which graced Wednesday nights for 7 years. Without her we wouldn’t have proof of some of the best nights we ever had. Thank you Sneaks! All photos here by @nikkisneakers

How to capture Friday night? I’m struggling to do it with words, which is not a great moment for a writer. Some moments are too big, too special, to sum up for a caption.

My dear friend @ameyerkilpatrick coined it “Book Wedding” and really there’s no better way to capture a debut book launch. Surrounded by the people I love most, I got to celebrate the relationship I’ve built with writing and racing, and share that love with friends & family.

@thebookandcover: Y’all have created an enchanted space, full of kindness and love for both words and people, and I’ll never take for granted the gift you gave me in launching The Last Sunday in May out to the world. I could say thank you each and every day and it wouldn’t be enough. It will never be enough. Thank you for holding my dream so tenderly in your hands.

@sarabethwest52 : I knew you’d be gentle with your conversation questions, but I should have known that you’d also be charming and funny and bring out the best in me (and tame my rambling-mumbling-awkwardness). What an honor to discuss my book with someone so brilliant! Thank you, dear friend.

To my friends, family, and new friends who came out to launch The Last Sunday in May to the world: I love you. I am more grateful that I can say with words. I want to hug every single one of you again. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I hope the look on my face, the wealth of friends and family in the audience, and the overall magic of the moment soak through the screen and translate my joy. Friday night was the night of dreams, and I’ll never forget it.

Most photos are by @blaesgreen and some are from @christianakey - THANK YOU!
