goodbye heatwave ❤️‍🔥

i don’t even really know what to say. the past two years have been the wildest rollercoaster. aside from experiencing personal loss, heatwave broke me down, pushed me to my limits, and showed me what i’m capable of.

heatwave may be closing, but this was not a failure.

@bananafanafofandrea and i are two small people who set out to create a community space that highlighted communities who are often overlooked or neglected by larger venues. we wanted to offer delicious food and handcrafted cocktails in a space that felt elevated and different for the queer community and its allies. we wanted to create unique events that step outside the box and expand upon what’s expected. we wanted to make an impact and while we wanted to do so much more, we did all of those things.

this journey was not an easy one and the cards were stacked against us from the beginning, but because of our perseverance and tenacity, we were able to cross the finish line. the lessons learned are immeasurable, the friendships made are invaluable, and the connections created will stay with me forever.

if there’s one thing i hope people take from this, it’s a reminder that community spaces only survive when we show up for them. we say we crave connection and community, but it requires stepping outside our routines and supporting the places that try to create something new and meeting them with grace. when we don’t, the corporations win.

the struggle has been real and i am emotionally, physically, and financially depleted. but even with that, i’m proud of what we built. proud of the staff and guests we brought together. proud of the all the memories made.

heatwave was my gift to the community. it will always have my heart and to every single person who believed in us, collaborated with us, or recommended us… thank you. the love you’ve shown is something i will carry forever.

but now it’s time for heatwave to close its doors. i’m sorry we couldn’t keep going, but i will never regret trying. 💕

belated bday post. this year was absolutely wild. it was a lot of endings and beginnings. it’s been rough out here but i know this year was pivotal for my growth and my future. i experienced the biggest loss this year losing my grandma and continue to grapple with that grief every single day. life will never be the same without her but i’m so glad to have had her shape me in ways that will keep her alive. i took a break from my interior design business not because i wasn’t successful but because i wasn’t feeling fulfilled and felt like i had plateaued in learning. this year, i’ve been doing nothing but learning and expanding which has felt amazing but also with change and new beginning comes a lot of heartache and lessons. i’m trying to give myself grace and be kind to myself every day but it’s challenging when life continually beats down on you. but i’m working on putting this year behind me, whatever happens with the risks and sacrifices i’ve made, whether they work out or become just a lesson learned, i’m ready for the next chapter. thank you to everyone who has entered my life this year and to those who have remained. i love you all and you continue to shape me every day. very very thankful and hopeful for the future, whatever that looks like 💕
