POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

•

As every year, during both of our residency programmes, Christina König opens the doors of her @christinekoenigchapter3 space and welcomes us with schnapps, coffee, and, most importantly, fascinating stories about Vienna’s art scene and the history of its galleries.

It is always a pleasure to spend time with one of the true icons of Vienna’s gallery scene, and we are very grateful for the generous hospitality and the opportunity to hear so many stories and insights.

This time, we also had the chance to see the excellent exhibition by nikita.kadan at @koenigzwei, where Robby Gerif generously opened the doors for us after opening hours.

A big thank you to Christine and Robby for their warm welcome and wonderful hospitality during this year’s Visiting Critics Vienna! ❤️

(…) Naruto (2026) by @andreasduscha examines photographic intentionality in the age of algorithmic image production. Its starting point is the famous “monkey selfie” of a crested macaque from 2011, a precedent in debates surrounding the copyright of AI-generated images. Since animals are not granted personality rights, any claim to licensing is invalid. In the form of a photographic exposure strip that begins too bright and ends too dark, the image increasingly detaches itself from its human origin. Photography appears as a result of technological and legal structures that generate value and meaning in the first place. (…)

BACK TO SCHOOL 🧀🥒🍊🥕🍅 with @kristofsanty @christinekoenigchapter3 💘

There was a humorous and lovely book – KAAS – which Kristof Santy read as a young artist. KAAS was written by Willem Elsschot in 1933. It’s one of the most important flemish novels, a very flemish story about a simple clerk at the General Marine in Antwerp who cunningly was talked into selling cheese – 20 tons of cheese. Laarmans is not suited for this work and proves unable to sell even the smallest quantity of cheese.

Both artists – Elsschot and Santy – reveal the beauty of simplicity and the tragicomedy of daily livelihood: a sense of home, quiet sorrow, groundedness, and a subtle touch of irony.
