Awesome birthday today, playing hookie with my wifey @mrs.kaars and wrapping the day up with friends @sichuaneats. I feel so blessed to have so many people in my life that believe in me. At one point in my life, I wasn't sure if I'd make it to my 30s. But I'm so thankful for the haters, the naysayers, and my own personal failures. I wouldn't be who I am today if not for them. If you're dreams don't scare you, they aren't big enough, so don't let fear keep you from being the person that God sees in you. It's ok to be broken. He takes broken pieces and makes master-pieces. I'm certain, today, that my 2 best decisions were the on day I gave Jesus control of my life, and the day I married / booby-trapped my wife. Thanks to all who have supported me and my dream at Where Y'at Food Truck, @the_cookhouse, @nola_brunchsa, @budsrotisserie, @elmardigras, and @thirdcoastcharities, and many more. Cullum’s Attagirl, as consistent as it gets. I’ve visited this place about 4 times now and I always feel like it exceeds expectations every time. One of my favorite meals now is lunch at Cullum’s. I recently got to take a few friends/co-workers to this place to just share the awesome experience I had for the first time back in September, and they were not disappointed. Most of us ordered the What-A-Girl Basket w/ the Nashville Tenders, Girl’s Thyme Fries, and that Gucci ranch. Just slightly above a comfortable spicy, these tenders made sure sweaty brows and subtle runny noses were had by all. Still, no one stopped from eating, we just kept coming back for that heat. Some looked at each other after trying that perfectly grilled Texas toast dipped in their in house made gravy and couldn’t believe this kind of comfort could be found on such a small stainless steel tray. I’ve heard other chefs describe this place as a well oiled machine, and that description couldn’t be more appropriate. The chefs are always killing it back there and still have a little time to ask you how your holidays are going. S/O to Chef Lisa & Chef Phil! So I was recently asked about “Negative Reviews”. I’ll say this, if I don’t like it, I won’t write about it. There is enough negativity out in the world already. No need for me to be contributing to that. Besides, most of the places I visit are small businesses. This business is the way these shop owners, chefs, cooks, and all others associated live and eat. Most have families to feed. Just doesn’t seem right to sway someone away from a place for whatever reason and take food out of their family’s mouth because of an experience didn’t live up to par. We all have bad days sometimes, we all don’t bring our A game to work every day. It’s about showing love, and lifting our city up one plate at a time. Feeling proud today! Proud of myself, proud of where I come from, and proud of where I currently am. Literally and figuratively. Born in New Orleans, living and loving San Antonio. I'm so proud to be a part of this city on the rise. My identity as a New Orleanian will never fade... I am New Orleans. But if I had been born here in Texas, I would be a 7th generation Texan, on my mom's side. It's such a blessing to see this city grow the way it has, and to be a part of the growth. My God, my family, my businesses, my friends, are all an amazing part of my journey that I wouldn't trade for anything in the world. But it was hard work and a lot of struggle to get here. I'm not proud of everything I've done in my past. I've made a TON of foolish decisions, spent time in jail, lost many friends to drugs and the prison system, risked my own life with drugs and alcohol... Truly too much to tell in one post. I don't deserve what I have. But God doesn't see us for who we were, only for who we are today, and who we have the opportunity to be, if we walk with Him. I love walking with God, and I love my home, San Antonio Texas. I hope that more of the people who live here will truly take pride in this great city, and get excited for the growth we have here. Let's not live in the past, in the shadow of what this city once was, but let's be a part of the growth and the opportunities this city has to be one of the greatest cities in the USA. Never forget the past, it made us who we are. But let's push in the future, and BE the change we want to see. Be blessed today, fam.
