Beyond grateful to @phoenix.advocacy for hosting our film WRECKAGE last night at Windsor Cinema in Nedlands for a very special charity event! What a treat to have expert speakers, politicians, students and movie goers in attendance. Notable mention to @simone.mcgurk for her very enlightening words and introduction.

Behind Wreckage.

@christopher_mark_peters wrote and directed Wreckage, a WA-produced film exploring the realities of domestic and sexual violence and interpersonal harm.

We asked him what inspired the story, and who he made it for.

Wreckage screens Thursday 30 July, 6:00 PM, Windsor Cinema, Nedlands. Followed by a live Q&A panel with the filmmakers and practitioners doing this work in our community.

Tickets via Humanitix, link in bio.

Hosted by Phoenix Support & Advocacy Service.

Behind the scenes of our first feature film… made for under $10k. 🎬
“Moorehouse Road” is FREE to watch on Tubi
Rent/buy on Amazon Prime Video & Apple TV

No big studio, a cast of local actors, A small crew. But a lot of passion! With a mission to prove that a lack of budget doesn’t have to limit ambition.

#thatsawrap on Day 1 of shooting scenes for The Actors Launchpad program. Super impressed with our students whom were either acting their scene or a crew member - after all, team work makes the dream work. 👏👏🎬🎥

When I found out @christopher_mark_peters feature film was premiering at the @wamadefilmfestival, I was immediately in. When he said to me “there are some uncomfortable scenes”, I was all in. Had I expected to sob in the theatre, I probably wouldn’t have worn eye make up. This film, so aptly named, wrecked me.

As an actor, writer and survivor of domestic violence and sexual assault, I see a lot of film and television that either inaccurately dramatises the reality of this epidemic, or only shows it at surface level. Wreckage doesn’t do any of that. This film shows the terrifying raw reality of what’s it like to be inside this situation. The truth of the cycle of violence. It shows the humanity in the horror that makes people say “but how could she not see what he was like?” and “why didn’t she just leave?”. It’s shows the severity of the fear, and the level of strength and bravery. The fact it was shot in WA made it hit closer to home for me than anything that’s come before it.

The performances by @tiahna_mcbride, @adam_t_perkins, @travis.koch5, @danibreweractor and @o.millzy were some of the most truthful I’ve seen. And thank you Tiahna for your strength, your kindness and for holding so much space for those around you.❤️

Thank you Chris for telling these stories, for being a voice to the voiceless, and for doing survivors justice. You’re an incredible, sunshine human, and this film truly showcases your heart. I hope every single person gets a chance to see this film. I’ll be thinking about Wreckage for a very long time.❤️❤️
