The stair hall at Midcentury Marvelous tells you almost everything about the house right away.

That was part of what made this project so exciting from the start. So much of the original 1960 design was still intact—the open staircase, warm redwood, and really beautiful proportions—so the house already had a very clear point of view.

We wanted the entry to still feel like that, just a little more welcoming for the way the house is lived in now. Those are some of my favorite projects, when the architecture gives you this much to work with from the beginning.

Rich redwood-paneled walls, a large colorful abstract painting, and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking greenery highlight the home’s original architectural character.

Some things just go well together. The sculpted curves of the @tomfaulkner Memphis table meet the loose, painterly marks of the @christopherfarrdesign Brushstroke rug.

Simply San Francisco, a study in contrasts.

A 1908 Victorian with English influences and a decidedly modern point of view. Sculptural furnishings sit alongside traditional architectural detailing, while a curved sofa follows the sweep of the bay window. Different periods and sensibilities are brought together with a distinctly Californian informality.
