So it’s fair to say that maps can take a while to finish (my own is going in 36 years) Farfall, the bulk load was finished start of last year … as a self confessed boarderphobe (yeah that’s a word I just made up) completing the last part has taken a bit, and to be fair it’s still only 98% complete. Check out its owner @chroniclesoffarfall their D&D YouTube and even a Patreon (perhaps I should work on mine) 👍🏻

Today I “borrowed” an idea from another Instagram cartographer (that unfortunately I can’t remember his name). He is drawing maps on small cards and posting them.

I have flipped it a little. I stated drawing a random map from my world, ON the post and sending it.

Still need to colour it and find a stiff piece of card. Then it’s off to California @chroniclesoffarfall hopefully the “Thing” will fit in. 🤞🏻the map survives the trip.

I guess the mail system will make it look authentic.

Over the last week, I’ve been more of a world builder than a cartographer.

Lately, I’ve been going wide with my lore—spanning continents, crafting cultures, threading timelines.

But this past week? Thanks to Obsidian, I’ve been going deep. Like, real deep.

Huge shoutout to Guido @chroniclesoffarfall for our late-night chats and giving me the gentle kick to the rear, I needed to finally anchor these ideas into the ether.

Knownworld is unfolding.

Lark is leaving the nest…
The floating city is off on a totally safe and definitely not-doomed jaunt across the void to visit another campaign world, courtesy of the mad arcano-portal scientists over at @chroniclesoffarfall . Apparently, multiversal etiquette requires a full top-down map and a Lore Buffet™ before travel—so I’m scribbling fast and praying harder.

Of course, a little jiggery pokery is needed to reconcile Knownworld’s six-limbed sensibilities with Farfall’s (probably much weirder) reality. I’ll be handing over the reins (and possibly the soul of Lark) to another DM who, I trust, will definitely not do unspeakable things to it while it’s away. How long will Lark be gone? Unclear. What will return? Also unclear. Possibly scorched. Probably wearing a new hat.

Wish me luck. And wish Lark even more.

The (near completed) Farfall Map [first image] has been in the back burner for a bit, whilst I a working on another map, and build some extra skills. I have been working in the Farfall Boarder (still WIP) this is one of my “non strengths” in cartography, tell me what you think.

Keen observers may have spotted an unusual floating island, that has popped up on my own maps. This is part of a crazy lore idea that Guido @chroniclesoffarfall and I have been throwing around.

[second image] A while back we moved a part of the map around and it left a void in the ocean. I filled these gaps with some archipelago islands and kinda just left them in limbo. Now I have made a blend of two realms that were previously separated by a large body of water. One gap down, one to go.

Switching between projects, is as good as a holiday.

Today I was working on the Farfall Map @chroniclesoffarfall in a realm called Talongar. The Horned Forest is a realm of untamed beauty and brutal rituals, where minotaurs, lycanthropes, and centaurs thrive under the watchful eyes of Malar and Silvanus. Deep in the Dendar Jungle Expanse, Aztec-inspired temples and hidden waterfalls create a dangerous yet mesmerizing setting, guarded by reptilian cultists and led by the enigmatic Yuanti. Finally, the bustling Umbravaste Docks, where rivers meet the coast, serve as a crucial trading post and secretive haven, rumored to be protected by a magical mermaid.

So Im sitting in church and I get a bit of inspiration and I see a Face and think, ok Im going to doodle a face while I listen …. Nope …

I start scratching towns and places. I know most of these do not fit my world as I start, so I working on what I know of Farfall @chroniclesoffarfall and what cool little map assets will look good around the Farfall Map in the “Blank Spaces”.

So Guido … (I know your reading this), I’ll just plonk them down in areas I feel appropriate. You can throw some names at me…

Also check out their podcasts, if you want some good honest D&D!!

Recently this area of Farfall was further south on the map … But there was a poor fellow that was not able to reach important places in his wagon so Wooosh!!! Lungren’s Belt up and moved north, so that the are-for mentioned fellow was able to make wagon travel a reality.

Go check the wagoneer’s (is that even a word?) travels at @chroniclesoffarfall

A hearty tip to all you cartographers out there. Make sure you don’t take early short-cuts with coastsal layers, colour layers and important terrain layers, as I had a “Great Kid!, Don’t get cocky”, cocky moment that cost me a weeks worth of fixing … 🤦🏻‍♂️
