Wrestling Head Coach Sean McGinley announced that he will be stepping down as head coach after leading the program for 25 years.

McGinley led the Irish to four team state titles and 17 wrestlers won individual state titles under his guidance. The Irish won 25 City Tournament championships, 19 Sectionals, 17 Regionals and 9 Semi-state titles.

“It’s been an honor to lead the wrestling program,” McGinley said. “I want to thank every athlete, parent, and coach who was a part of the program.”

McGinley continued to build the program after taking over in 2001 and the Irish became a perennial contender in the state of Indiana. The tradition of the wrestling program spans generations and has built a strong legacy within the Cathedral family.

McGinley will continue to serve as a classroom educator at Cathedral.

“I’m really proud of our guys this year. They stepped up all season even when it wasn’t easy, and because of that, we were able to get the success we wanted all season," said Coach Sean McGinley '88.

Senior Sports Editor Ben Kauffman wrote the story as the wrestling team wrapped up its state run.
