POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Wait a minute……So you’re telling me the Golden State Valkyries @valkyries fans can passionately cheer for their team, root AGAINST the opposing players, pack the arena, AND still treat those opposing players with respect and dignity ???

No harassment? No personal attacks? No racism ? No hate ? No making players’ lives miserable simply because they don’t play for your favorite team? And the opposing players actually ENJOY playing in front of them???

It’s almost like you can be a passionate basketball fan without being a toxic, abusive, combative, demeaning, disrespecting mob ? Who knew???

But seriously, Caitlin Clark Mob, why do you think WNBA players NEVER seem to give your fanbase compliments like this?

I’ll wait…

Take your time….

No rush…..

Great debate on The Collision “Where Sports And Politics Collide”

While discussing the case of the University Of Maryland tennis team being suspended after KKK white supremacist paraphernalia was sent to Howard University before they played, we had different opinions on what the punishment should be.

My position was formed after watching an interview where freshman Cameron Bryant (who is a courageous young Sista) explained how she shouldn’t be punished for the actions of her teammates. And that she believed they should expose who exactly did it, and punish them in particular. She also discussed how disappointed she was in her teammates being that they practiced with her everyday but still harbored those feelings.

Chuck Modi has a very understandable fear of everyone getting off because they can’t pinpoint who in particular is guilty ie the deaths of Freddie Gray and Nolan Wells.

Dave Zirin agreed more with my position but what are your thoughts ?

Great discussion

When we speak about the Caitlin Clark Mob, these are some of the people we are talking about. And this was all in the past few days smh these ppl are unhinged. They inject Caitlin Clark into every conversation. They frame everything as if everyone is against her and she is being persecuted and treated unfairly. They promote this narrative literally non stop. Aja Wilson wins the MVP ? Caitlin Clark should’ve won. Angel Reese advances to the finals ? More viewers watch Caitlin Clark. Olivia Miles had a great rookie season. Caitlin Clark did better. Angel Reese won defensive player of the year. Caitlin Clark is the one everyone wants to see

Like Dave Zirin @edgeofsports said, the sun is shining ? It wouldn’t be shining so bright if it weren’t for Caitlin Clark 😂

And like Howard Bryant @hbryant42 said, “Who cares about ratings anyway ? Why are they so obsessed with ratings”

The Caitlin Clark Mob are a special group 😂

Howard Bryant @hbryant42 made a powerful comparison when he described what we’re witnessing in the WNBA as GENTRIFICATION.

Think about what gentrification actually looks like. A community builds something from the ground up. They invest in it, sacrifice for it, create the culture, establish its identity, and keep it alive when nobody else cares. Then, when that community becomes valuable, a new group arrives, and suddenly the people who built it are treated like they don’t belong anymore.

Now apply that analogy to the WNBA.

Black women helped build this league. They carried it through years of disrespect, ridicule, limited coverage, and people constantly questioning whether anyone even watched women’s basketball. (Shout out to Paige Bueckers for pointing that out at the ESPY’s years ago and which is one of the reasons Mainstream America doesn’t fully support her the way they should, but I digress)

So Caitlin Clark arrives, brings an enormous new audience, and suddenly those same Black Women are now being portrayed as villains in their own league.

Angel Reese is demonized for being competitive. A’ja Wilson is scrutinized. Natasha Cloud speaks against the slaughter of Palestinians in Israel’s Genocide and becomes a target. Napheesa Collier targeted for standing up against the WNBA during negotiations, DeWanna Bonner becomes a national meme after the Sophie Cunningham pointing episode, Kelsey Mitchell just opened up about how she’s been treated (to which Caitlin Clark supported her and told her fans again not to use her for hate)

And here’s the part that makes Bryant’s analogy especially powerful. The issue isn’t that new people showed up. It’s the hostility toward the people who were already there.

It’s not wrong to support Caitlin Clark. It’s not wrong to celebrate her popularity, talent, or impact. But why does celebrating her have to come with diminishing, disrespecting, or attacking the Black women who helped make the league what it is.

You don’t get to move into somebody else’s house, disrespect the people who built it, and then act like you’re the reason the house exists.
