Dance is something I always wanted to do, but always felt "too late to the party." I was intimidated by the idea of being a beginner in my 40s, while dancing with people half my age who'd been dancing for years.

But sometimes you have to set aside the fear of being bad at something new and just do it scared. At the very least, you learn something. More likely, you end up enriching your life.

The thing about dance is that it's almost impossible that it WON'T enrich your life. The music, the movement, being in your body, connecting with others all serve to make life more vibrant.

Was this performance perfect? Not in the slightest. I can see every moment I was off or messed up. But that doesn't take away from the pride I feel. Over half of the members of this team were first-timers. Over half of us are over 40 years old.

I am so grateful to the steps that led here. To my husband, for asking me to take lessons with him a few years ago. To @lxtvse for those first private lessons. To @estanochedance for the community and quality instruction. And to Jennifer of @jsquaredbachata for this opportunity and experience.

Do the scary thing, y'all. It's often so worth it.
