RIP DISCO 💔

The first venue in Darwin to let me run my first event: The bushfire fundraiser for furry friends 🐨 🥹

From there we had so many amazing memories and met some of my best friends + we hosted so many incredible acts & got to give local artists and creatives some insane opportunities.

People outside the industry really don’t understand how hard it is for venues to survive right now. The government keeps piling on liquor laws, insane taxes on alcohol, licensing costs, insurance, compliance, security requirements, rising wages, power bills, rent increases… and then people wonder why venues are shutting down everywhere.

It’s getting to the point where it’s almost impossible to make money unless you’re a giant corporation. Independent venues are getting absolutely smashed.

And nightlife venues are important. They create jobs for so many people and opportunities for local DJs, musicians, performers, photographers, creatives, promoters, event staff etc. Entire music scenes are built from these places.

It’s sad to see so many iconic venues here and all over Aus shutting down and i hope our industry can make a comeback soon 🥲

Thanks for the mad times OG Disco fam 💖
