📍Chur Bae, Auckland

Check out this cute cafe in Auckland’s city centre where they serve up brunch, korean inspired lunch and drinks! I ordered their Ragu Toast which was delicious, wasn’t too heavy and I enjoyed every bite! Their Iced Dirty Matcha was also great, a good balance between the coffee and matcha!

It's the big game on Saturday, and who better to guide you through Bledisloe Cup weekend than @limasopoaga, former All Black, aspiring current All Black (come on Rennie!!) and presenter 🏉

We slid into his DMs to find out where he eats before heading to Eden Park, where he goes to celebrate post-game, and his words for the men in black as they get ready to hold the fortress against the Wallabies.

☀️ Out & About

📍Ooh this was delicious! Espresso Mascarpone Croffle from @churbae.akl - definitely going back for more.
📍 The famous Ricotta Pancake from @bambinanewmarket_cafe - not as good as I’ve had previously but still tasty.
📍 One of the best, and most reasonably priced High Teas we’ve had this year - and with awesome service too. Check out @forumbar_auckland in the @jwmarriottauckland Hotel. Definitely worth a visit.
📍Ricotta Pancake with bacon from @thestore_britomart - so good! So sad they are closing soon as they’ve been an absolute stellar destination (staff are amazing too)! 😭
📍Omelette with mushrooms, goat cheese and chilli crisp from @odettes_eatery - I really loved this dish with all the flavours and textures.
📍Tiramisu waffle from @urbanineast - super tasty! The ladyfingers were dry, which gave the dish a nice crunch - you can always add maple syrup too. Recommend adding a side of their perfectly cooked bacon.
📍$18 lunch special from @tylerst.bar - there are a range of options and it comes with a soft drink or you can upgrade to a glass of wine or beer. I ordered the Korean Chicken Caesar salad which was quite saucy but a nice twist. The parmigiana also looked good!
📍Delish lunch at the fabulous @vivacerestaurant - I ordered the roasted pumpkin with labneh, salsa and Parmesan. So yum! My friend ordered the chicken Caesar salad.
📍Pre-show bite to eat at @16tun which continues to deliver great food. We ordered a range of burgers and nibbles. I chose the Deluxe Smash Burger which was full of flavour, with the freshness of the salad too.
📍Iced coffee from @rumours_coffee - always a popular choice for new and different flavours.

First brunch in Auckland
A cute little spot, good food & the sweetest ending
That croissant waffle with espresso mascarpone was too good✨💛

Okay Auckland, I’m impressed 🫶🏻

Some random guy comes to the café and starts filming...

... and then turns around a short edit 😅

The challenge is seeing and capturing the scenes, food, and special character. Then somehow condensing that down to just a few seconds that can (hopefully) take you there.

This all started with a careful baseline music edit that prompted ideas in the cut. That, plus all the little surprising moments you find while filming candidly like this, end up giving a result that's something like Chur Bae itself: Warm, seriously good, and a little bit special.

I’ve seen firsthand how hard businesses in Midtown, Uptown, and Karangahape Road have fought to reach this day. Tragically, so many didn’t make it.

Having sat in countless meetings over the years, I’ve heard their struggles and watched them hold on for this moment. Today was all about showing up and sharing whatever love we could.

Thinking of you, @bridges_nz thank you for physically helping build this absolute gem. 🙏🏽💐🥹🤍

New cameras and gear tempt me every day. But this little vid (with an old GH5, cheap mic, and natural light) shows that a careful setup and beautiful colours can still do a beautiful job.

Its all you need to show off Chur Bae's beautiful dish like this.

Also, peep the blue-sky day outside getting reflected in the sunglasses

Freelancing has it's challenges, but one awesome positive is getting to create content in genres I've never worked in before. Including delicious food content in the restaurant and hospitality space.

Nduja hash 🤤😋

I will be dreaming of this !! Potatoes and pork and fennel sausage, flavoured with Nduja !! My absolute favourite (I took the egg off so this was my dream breakfast)

I will need to come back next time I’m in Auckland !!

Cringe presents… ASK AN EXPERT #19: Michael Meredith @mmeredith27, owner and executive chef of @mrmorrisnz and @metita.akl

Mr Morris is a restaurant for a special occasion, the service and food delivered with a fine-dining precision, despite a less formal setting (it safely sits in that elusive “smart” category). Its attention to the finer things in life makes sense when you find out its owner and head chef is Michael Meredith, who you might know from being the founding head chef at The Grove and, of course, his own restaurant Merediths. We’re big fans of the food at both Mr Morris and Michael’s more Pacific-focused restaurant, Metita - especially the flavour-packed snacks.

This week, Sam @_sam_low_ asks Michael Meredith where he’d go for a fine-dining meal, his favourite coffee spot, and more.

Michael recommends:

Restaurants: @lillius_nz, @aarth_restaurant, @thegrillauckland , @bar_magda, @depoteatery, @ragtag_nz
Bars: @caretaker.nz, @truthordarebar
Cafes: @churbae.akl, @beabeas.bakery
