Stoked to be part of Chute’s (@chutefilmcoop) end-of-the-year love-at-first-sight receipts. Out of 292 features I’ve seen this year, these cutie pies were the ten that made the cut. There’s still a few more I’ll probably look back in a couple of years and feel a pang of regret over (ehm, Peeping Tom? Hollywood 90028? River of Grass?), but I guess we all have to live with it in the end lol.

Big thanks to @luwonuor for the kind invite and kudos to @npatuska for designing the only kind of receipt I’d love to keep 🧃

2 films to watch for free now ⭐️| In collaboration with @ppowgallery and @wojfound, @chutefilmcoop presents two works by David Wojnarowicz, American filmmaker, writer and activist.

From today, August 1st and until August 3rd: ‘A Fire in My Belly’ and ‘When I Put My Hands on Your Body’ will be available to watch online for free via chutecoop.com

This project looks to draw attention to the extreme rise of anti-queer propaganda and violence in recent years, focusing on the events that have been unfolding in Turkey.

At the generous invitation of @chutefilmcoop , we came together as poets, comrades, and witnesses to create a catalogue-zine featuring our collective and individual poems in dialogue with the films of the legendary David Wojnarowicz: *A Fire in My Belly* and *When I Put My Hands on Your Body* ❤️‍🔥 in collaboration with @wojfound @ppowgallery @chutefilmcoop

The zine opens with our short text, *Against the Heteronormative State and Its Colonial Logic: On the Spatial Erasure of Queer Bodies and Resistance* ; a declaration, a refusal, a mapping of memory against forgetting. It closes with a collective poem, created by bringing together the poems contributed by each artist, highlighting the shared voice and expression within the queer community’s struggle.

Let it be known: there is no pride in genocide. Let it be known: we will continue resisting, in every form, until freedom is not a privilege but a given for all of us. Power to the people❤️‍🔥

EPISODE #5 available on Spotify! This time we speak with Hande Esiroğlu, a member of Chute Film Coop, a non-profit avant-garde and experimental film collective formed in 2021 between Istanbul and The Hague.

Esiroğlu walks us through the experimental film scene in Istanbul, including its merits and where it can be improved. Together we discuss the importance of context, the rewards and challenges of working as a collective, and how to avoid creating barriers between the image and audience, when dealing with avant-garde and experimental cinema.

The work of Chute film coop can be found on their website or @chutefilmcoop

Chute Open: Frownland. Online program with films by Ben Balcom, Emily Chao, Assia Piqueras, Bram Ruiter, Eric Theise. Curated by Stefano Miraglia. Until February 28th

"My smile is stuck
I cannot go back to your Frownland
My spirit's made up of the ocean
And the sky 'n' the sun 'n' the moon
'N' all my eyes can see
(Captain Beefheart)

FROWNLAND is the first instalment of the monthly program Chute Open.

About Chute Open
Inspired by a simple yet persistent question familiar to any and everyone within the community–"Link?"–Chute Open presents a monthly curated selection of films sourced from open archives. In a playful reflection of a deeper-rooted issue, where, due to lack of easy accessibility many experimental works are labeled as "rare" or "hidden gems", this program aims to challenge this notion of scarcity."
