THE 3AM ST. JAMES TOWN JOGGER: A TRUE STORY

The Vanishing Jogger of St. James Cemetery

I’ve lived in downtown Toronto’s St. James Town neighbourhood since 2007.

Around 3 AM in 2009 or 2010, on what I believe was a Friday night, I went for a walk after working late on a freelance project. Chyrell was still on her computer at home, preparing to sleep.

I was fully awake. Being a night owl, this was normal for me.

Walking along the west sidewalk of Parliament Street near Bloor, I noticed a blonde Caucasian woman jogging northbound across the four-lane road, beside St. James Cemetery.

She had a ponytail, hoodie, jogging pants and headphones. Nothing seemed unusual.

The full moon was beautiful, and the streetlights provided good visibility.

I watched her for 5–10 seconds, then briefly looked up at the moon.

When I looked back, I was SHOCKED.

SHE WAS NOW INSIDE THE CEMETERY!

She was still jogging, but behind the tall iron fence!

I knew the area. There was no nearby opening. The cemetery entrance I knew was much farther south, near Parliament and Wellesley.

I rubbed my eyes, blinked and looked again.

She was still there!

Then she jogged farther eastward among the graves.

HER BODY GRADUALLY BECAME TRANSPARENT.

I watched her fade until she COMPLETELY DISAPPEARED.

I stood there stunned. I wasn’t sleepy or under the influence of anything.

Sixteen years later, I still remember it clearly.

Was she an apparition? A spirit?

I honestly don’t know. But I know what I witnessed.

Swipe through these seven AI-generated illustrations recreating my experience.

This is my personal eyewitness account, described as I remember it.

**THE GENTLEST HEARTS CAN WEATHER THE FIERCEST STORMS.**

When I first met Chy, her beautiful singing voice reminded me of Disney's *The Little Mermaid*. Since then, I've dreamed of creating an animated movie featuring her voice.

Most people know me as a professional musician, songwriter, composer, and arranger. But many don't know about my foundation in visual arts.

From 1993–1997, I attended and graduated from the Ontario College of Art (OCA), later renamed Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD), and now OCAD University.

My artistic background includes fine art, drawing, painting, cartooning, illustration, Chinese painting, classical and 3D animation, filmmaking, industrial design, advertising design, graphic design, and multimedia production.

When I wrote and recorded **“Tender Storms”** for Chy, featured on Vocal Groove Collective's *PULSE* album, I saw an opportunity to bring that longtime dream to life.

After countless hours combining music, storytelling, animation, filmmaking, and AI creative technology, I'm excited to share this anime-style EDM music video!

In this fantasy adventure, Chy portrays a beautiful, feminine, and compassionate guardian of Mother Nature, protecting a precious tree against terrifying demonic shadow creatures.

But the monsters symbolize something deeper: liars, betrayers, manipulators, abusers, and those who selfishly use others. Their frightening appearance reflects the ugliness within.

The storms represent life's painful experiences and challenges.

Yet Chy remains graceful, feminine, loving, and beautiful inside and out. She stands against darkness without becoming part of it.

**She confronts cruelty without losing her kindness.**

Because true strength isn't about becoming crueler than the world around us. It's about standing strong while preserving the beauty within ourselves.

This project brings together my lifelong passions for music and visual storytelling, inspired by a beautiful voice many years ago.

Here’s a small preview of something we’re working on for 2027. 🎶
Chy and I are imagined on the dance floor in **“DETONATION,”** a new song I’m currently producing that blends Hip-Hop, Deep House and Festival Anthem House.
A new artist is also being developed behind the scenes and will be bringing this new sound and song to VGC. So this will appear on both albums. More details in the new year.

ME + BLACK EYED PEAS + THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE… WHEN A GRAMMY-WINNING ARTIST IS ABOUT TO HIT YOUR STAGE… NO PRESSURE, RIGHT? 😂🔥

And that Grammy winner was Apl.de.Ap of the Black Eyed Peas.

What an awesome weekend at the Mabuhay Philippines Festival at Nathan Phillips Square! 🇵🇭

It had been 14 years since I last did stage coordination — back in 2012 for the Filipino Making Waves Festival — and I was quickly reminded that it’s nowhere near as easy as it looks!

Performers, timing, music, multimedia, last-minute changes and the unexpected things that happen during a live show.

But you know what?

I LOVED IT.

I loved the problem-solving. Something changes? Okay, how do we make this work? The show has to keep moving!

Having Apl.de.Ap as one of the major performers, with thousands of people coming through Nathan Phillips Square, certainly made this one memorable. I didn’t even get to shake his hand, but playing my small part behind the scenes was pretty darn cool.

And I definitely didn’t do this alone.

A very special thank you to Karen and Chyrell for being right there helping throughout the weekend and making everything come together. ❤️

Huge thanks to Tom, President of PIDC, for the opportunity and trust, and to Ryan for jumping in when we needed to solve problems quickly.

And a HUGE thank you to Sherwin Sunico and the Nathan Phillips Square tech crew for helping make the sound and multimedia a success. 🙏

I was also hoping to make it to the Toronto Korean Festival, but that crazy rain downpour had other plans. 😂🌧️

This weekend reminded me how much I enjoy creating, coordinating, problem-solving, working with people and making things WORK.

After 14 years away, that was one heck of a way to come back.

What an awesome Mabuhay weekend! 🇵🇭🔥❤️

Weeeelllll… Ah’m a-comin’ ‘round de fence, y’all! 🤠

Chy an’ Ah’re fixin’ ta plane ride inta Nashville this Saturday fer the Shaklee Conference.

Ah reckon it’s been a dog’s age since we last come ‘round these parts. Shoot… Ah wuz only 39 back then! Mah knees don’t sound the same no more, but mah heart still starts dancin’ soon as Ah hear a steel guitar.

We’s gonna wander Broadway, listen ta some boot-scootin’ tunes, hug some ol’ friends, eat way too much good grub, an’ soak up every last bit o’ that Southern charm.

Now don’t y’all go havin’ too much fun ’til we git there…

‘Cause Chy an’ Ah’re Nashville bound!

YEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAWWWW!!! 🤠🎸🐎

We’ve always wondered… What if?

What if Chyrell and I had children?

Would our first daughter have my eyes and her beautiful smile? Would our first son take after his mom? And would the rest be a wonderful blend of both of us?

Over the years, we hoped, we prayed, and we did everything we could to build a family. It simply wasn’t the path God had planned for us.

There will always be a small part of us that wonders what our children might have looked like, what their personalities would have been like, and the memories we might have shared together.

But we’ve learned that faith isn’t about understanding every answer—it’s about trusting the One who already knows them.

We truly believe God has a greater purpose for our lives, even if it’s different from the one we once imagined. His plan has brought us incredible people, meaningful experiences, and countless blessings that we’ll always be grateful for.

And perhaps one day, in God’s perfect timing, we’ll finally meet the children we never had the chance to know.

Until then, we’ll continue to trust Him, cherish the life He’s given us, and be thankful for every blessing along the way.

God’s plans are always greater than our own. ❤️🙏
