Although I’m here to pound the curds, I’m still nice with the verbs.

Project Attic is open for business! (Softly) My six-year adventure in vintage and resale has crystalized into a brick-and-mortar store in the heart of College Hill in Providence, RI located at 301 Wickenden St.

After leaving academe, I never imagined I could parlay my research skills and love of literature and culture into a wearable art form, but as I delved deeper into fashion history, I found cohesion between languages—the written word and the symbolic nature of how we dress, what speaks to our cultural identity and what we want to portray to others of self. This is an ever-fascinating treasure of discovery over epochs.

The narratives of people’s lives are wrapped up in their garments. Project Attic attempts to tell those stories through pieces I’ve uncovered and discovered throughout my sourcing trips, house calls, and estate finds. Many iconic pieces get a new life adhering to a new owner: just yesterday, a Latina dancer chose a skirt that had belonged to a professional Boston ballerina — or did the skirt choose her? It was a synergy that can only happen in the moment. Breathtaking.

As you might wonder, will I wholly abandon my drive to educate? Not a chance! Project Attic seeks to build a factually-informed community of fashionistas. People often tell me there’s no plus-sized vintage, but tell that to the agrarian class one hundred years ago! There are textiles and accessories from centuries past still available to us that break the myths we tell ourselves. And you can find them outside of a museum. I hope to uncover more of those stories as I develop my store. Store/story—ha!

I must give credit and thanks to the kind friends and family who have nudged, encouraged, physically assisted, and otherwise helped me advance this goliath of a journey: my loving husband Eric Paul @chzzy_e, my parents who resist submitting to Meta; Chris Daltry and Jennifer Daltry of @whatcheer; Suzy of @collectedboutique; my daughter Ava Champion @avacallaway; my son Terran Paul @terranpaul; Sonia Gilewicz of @split_apart_secondhand; Sarah of @lonedamevintage; and countless unnamed others who are important to me.

Thank you for reading! Drop a line, say hello. 🩵 Alifair Skebe pulling the paper off the windows for opening day at Project Attic shop in Providence, RI

What a whirlwind spring this has been for me! Took a road trip with my daughter to @twincitiestruevintageshow and met with my best friend from high school for a little Pearl Jam nostalgia and buying in #nola Then a fabulous weekend @thehawksnestshopp Honky Tonk in #hudsonny but that’s not all! We popped into @thevintageroundup in #albanyny and then onto #brimfield for @dealers_choice_brimfield and @officialhertans This is the wildest, most busy Spring ever. And I couldn’t be more in love with slinging vintage clothing and accessories. 🩵🥰🩵

I got to be back in my hometown to see friends and old customers from back when @chzzy_e and I owned The Cheese Traveler. It was a delight to meet new people and catch up with everyone.
