POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Everyone thinks their family's biryani is the real one. In Singapore, they are all right.

Growing up, biryani meant one thing to me: long-grain basmati, sealed and slow-cooked dum. Perfect, and I assumed it was the whole story.

Then I moved to Singapore, and every time a biryani hankering struck, it led me somewhere new. Here is what I found:

Nasi briyani, the Singaporean one, perfumed with pandan leaf
Hyderabadi dum, fiery and layered
Kolkata, with the potato that starts family arguments
Bangladeshi kacchi, marinated meat and rice cooked together under one lid
Malabar, cooked in bamboo or tied in banana leaf
Tamil seeraga samba, short-grained and fragrant
Sri Lankan, from a grandmother's recipe in Queenstown
Mandi, biryani's Arab cousin
And crab. Two kilos of it, in a clay pot.

Thirty-three places, for the next time the hankering strikes.

Slide two is my Top 5.
Slide three is the People's 5, chosen by the queues, plus one secret you will have to earn.

Send this to the friend who insists theirs is the only real one, and if your favourite is missing, defend it below.

Comment “biryani” and I’ll send you the location 🍛
This might just be one of the best biryanis in Singapore — and they make 2,000 kilos of it every single week.
I know biryani is a sensitive topic for a lot of us 😅 but I order their jackfruit and chicken biryani every second week, so I had to talk about it. Here’s what to get:
🌿 Chilli paneer — crispy outside, soft inside, perfection

🍗 Hyderabadi dum chicken biryani — for the non-vegetarians, thank me later

🌱 Jackfruit biryani — the one I swear by. People love to say veg biryani is “just pulao”… not this one, I promise

🥭 Mango lassi — not too sweet, exactly how it should be
The veg menu is just as big as the non-veg one, the portions are huge, and the prices are reasonable — I can never finish a plate and always pack the rest for next day’s lunch.
It’s called Cilantro, and it’s addictive, so try it at your own risk. Share this with the one person you’d want to have the great biryani-vs-pulao debate with 🍛
