My last trip the range for a bit. I’m gonna lock in on my dry fire for a while. I wanted to get the feel of what I need my grip to feel like while shooting one more time. The first 2 mags the goal was to keep a good grip shooting 2’s all the way through. Then I did a few on the clock seeing where I was at after a week of drawing slow and getting my reps in. Definitely better but still so much work to do.

I started off just trying to lock in on my grip and my trigger squeeze by itself without drawing hoping it would smooth it out some when I added the draw. I still need to work on prepping the trigger better and I definitely need to do some more of those first mag rounds just getting my grip right. Where I know it’s right every time so I can lock in on the trigger. Every trip I’m feeling sharper though. Just gotta keep working

5 Second Drill Warm Up

Draw - Shoot at 5 seconds
5 Yards
5 Shots
Inch Dots

Sometimes I’ll bump out to 7yds and shoot 5 more. I feel like it helps me lock in. Plus if I can hit the 1 inch dots or get close even I can get in the A Zone. At least that’s my thought process.

You wash your hands with cold water after shooting prevent lead dust and heavy metal residue from embedding into your skin. Warm or hot water opens your skin pores, which can trap toxic particles or allow them to absorb more deeply into the body.

Why Residue is on Your Hands?

• Gunpowder Primers: Standard ammunition uses lead styphnate in the primer, which vaporizes and leaves a fine layer of toxic dust on your skin and clothes when fired.

• Bullet Contact: Handling bullets, magazines, and spent brass transfers lead and carbon residue directly onto your fingers.

Best Practices for Cleanup

• Use Soap: Pair cold water with regular soap or specialized lead-removal soap (like D-Lead) to break down heavy metals.

• Wash Face and Arms: Clean your face, beard, and wrists as well, since fine particulate dust settles on all exposed skin.

• Avoid Hand Sanitizer: Alcohol gels do not remove lead and can actually help bind the heavy metal particles to your skin.

• Change Clothes: Wash range clothes separately from everyday laundry to avoid tracking lead into your vehicle or home.

Working on shooting from the “High Ready Position”

The high ready position is a tactical rifle carry method where the buttstock is tucked into the pocket of the shoulder (or held under the armpit), while the barrel is pointed upward at roughly a 45-degree angle.

Why it is So ImportantThe high ready position is vital in close-quarters combat (CQB), home defense, and team movements for four key reasons:

Maximum Speed to Target: Bringing the rifle to a shooting position requires a simple downward hinge of the muzzle. It is often faster than lifting a heavy rifle up from a low ready position.

Safe Team Maneuvering: In crowded environments or tight hallways, pointing the muzzle up ensures you do not flag (point the gun at) the legs, feet, or torsos of teammates moving ahead of you.

Retention and Control: Tucking the stock tightly makes it incredibly difficult for an attacker to grab, snatch, or deflect your weapon during a close-range struggle.

Unobstructed Field of View: Because the rifle barrel is pointed up and out of your primary line of sight, you maintain 100% of your peripheral vision to spot threats.

Awesome drill I saw in a @classicfirearmsofficial Vid while shooting with @gbrsgroup

I added some things as I went along, but the main idea is really simple and really solid. If you’re still in the newer guy phase like I am give it a try.

I’ll post a PT 2 with what I added tomorrow 💪

Getting these fundamental reps in. Right as I started kind of getting this stuff I was trying to go right to speed. Which I know is the goal. But I for sure still need some time at this pace to get my foundation right. I started with a controlled drill I’ll post tomorrow cause I want to talk about how much I can tell it’s gonna help me and the difference I saw even today.

Today was the first day I have really worked my reloads while shooting with the G45. I Definitely felt better as I went. Now the next couple weeks will just be all dry fire and focusing on the mechanics.

Listening to the man @teknicalmethodz and hitting the range less and spending more time locking in on my fundamentals. I still am fairly new to this stuff. And I’m definitely suffering from moving on to the next step without making sure my basics are on point. So when I do go to the range at least for a little bit I’m going back to the basics some. I definitely feel like I know what I’m supposed to be doing. I just gotta get the reps and find the consistency. Then work my back up. #fngtactical #tekmethodz #glock #wildertactical #osight
