I’d planned this for months.

I didn’t want just a book launch, I wanted a place where people would get their hearts softened. I didn’t want anyone who was not able to buy the book or the framed posters to feel left out—I wanted each person to feel seen—so I created these little cards that had the name of each person that RSVP-ed (this was the major reason I asked people to register so if you registered and did not attend, I have a card with your name on it in my house).

Each card had a line from the book and a reflective question. I had quite a number of people walk up to me to ask how I knew that particular quote and question was just what they needed. It wasn’t me. I am mighty glad that I did not choose having a crowd over this little act of intimacy I was led to curate for the people who attended. I thank you all for coming and I hope it was worth your time.

Having my family, friends and loved ones around made this place feel like home. I remember telling a friend that more than anything, I wanted people to find community in this event and I also wanted to enjoy myself like I wasn’t the person organising the event. My friend had said sorry, it would not be possible. 😹 I also forfeited the thought.

However, I achieved both of this things but especially because of the many people who stood beside me to hold my hand. I was able to enjoy this event like I wasn’t the organiser and not worry about anything because of the most beautiful people:

@thebaton_ng , Chibunna @chibunnavtb and Ejirhoghene @ejirhoghene thank you for owning this event and producing it with your heart; plus all the other people you brought on board and the many Nairas you saved me. Thank you Chibunna (Richieee 😹), for asking about this event when I first posted about it online, perceiving my cluelessness and stepping in to support me. Thank you Ejirhoghene (Jiro 😹) for coming through even when it was not convenient. Every time Ejirhoghene noticed me looking around during the event, he would walk up to me and ask what I needed. I couldn’t thank you both, God will. ❤️🤲
