Tonight’s Austin Bicycle Meals ride took us into East Austin and to several encampments I hadn’t visited before.

It was a powerful reminder of just how difficult daily life can be for our unhoused neighbors.

A huge thank you to Hope Presbyterian Church for providing 150 bagged meals with turkey sandwiches, chips and drinks. Along the way, we also provided popsicles, socks, toiletries, T-shirts and other essentials.

Austin Bicycle Meals is always looking for individuals or organizations interested in sponsoring a meal. If you’d like to help, reach out to Kelly at Austin Bicycle Meals, or message me and I’d be happy to connect you.

How can you help keep the wheels turning at Yellow Bike? 🚲💛

Every year, @austinyellowbike processes around 3,000 bicycles to give back to the Austin community. But turning that many donated bikes into safe, reliable transportation takes serious manpower! While volunteers are an amazing and crucial part of the process, training good mechanics takes time. To keep up with demand and get more bikes to people who need them, Yellow Bike is seeking financial donations to hire more dedicated staff mechanics. Your support not only gets more bikes on the road, but it also helps create local bike mechanic jobs right here in Austin!

Got an e-bike that needs some troubleshooting? ⚡🚲

E-bikes are changing the cycling landscape in Austin, but their electrical components can be tricky to fix! Since most standard bike mechanics aren’t trained in electronics yet, @austinyellowbike noticed a growing need in the community. Instead of turning riders away, they now offer a specific 3-hour e-bike troubleshooting class for $60, taught by their resident electric bike expert.

Once you have food, clothes, and shelter, what’s the next thing everyone needs? Transportation. 🚲🌍

@austinyellowbike believes that bicycles are a universal solution. They encourage using bikes for transportation because it benefits the environment, our bodies, our minds, and our cities! To make this a reality, they created an inclusive space where anyone—regardless of their background, politics, or mechanical skill level—can come together to help build bikes for Austin.

Bicycle mechanics shouldn’t be a mystery. 🚲🔧

While bikes are relatively simple, fixing them requires specific tools. That’s exactly why @austinyellowbike was created—to act as a community tool library! By organizing all the necessary tools in one place and offering free access to mechanical knowledge, they’ve built a welcoming space that empowers everyone to learn. It’s all about sharing resources and encouraging more people to proudly join Austin’s cycling culture.

Why would a bicycle nonprofit sell bikes? 🤔🚲

When @austinyellowbike first started, their original goal was to teach everyone how to build their own bike from scratch and proudly ride it onto the street. However, they quickly realized that becoming a bike mechanic is a serious commitment that requires time and mechanical inclination. Not everyone has the ability or desire to turn wrenches—and that is perfectly fine! Selling refurbished bikes bridges that gap, providing affordable transportation for Austinites who just need a reliable ride, while also keeping their community programs funded.
