Back with another round of Aussie Recs for you and this time I’m pulling 3 albums that feel the most important to me in my Australian music collection.

I think there is absolutely something to be said for music that comes out in your more formative years. You discover it and get to interact with it first hand when it’s local to you as well.

These are records I hope to pass on to my son when he is older and I hope if you haven’t heard them you enjoy discovering them. 🎶🎤👌🏻

Portrait of Mitch on my bed in Surry Hills, 2010. Shown as part of my first solo exhibition ‘Precious Metals’ at @ccp_australia and printed in my book of the same name, 2014. Later used for the cover of the @lowlife.sydney LP ‘Downer EDN’. 🕯️

Link in bio. Recorded fourteen months ago! These episodes take forever (fourteen months) to edit. I dunno if I’ll do these interview episodes again. Funny enough, the episode starts with the sentiment “let’s talk about what’s been going on in Minneapolis lately.” The court system moves slowly, so honestly not a lot has changed. Derek Chauvin was convicted and I believe the trial of the other three officers is kicking off. George Floyd Square is still a place for grieving and protest, and the city has also forcibly and shamefully opened up the intersection to allow traffic through to try to get things back to normal and have everyone forget about it all. Walker and I are, much like when this episode was recorded, friends. Funny enough we see eachother much more often than we did when we lived on the same block. I love Walker a lot and so many of my life’s formative experiences were shared with him on tour in our band Solid Attitude. This episode, like this description if you’ve gotten this far, is long because we have so much to talk about and because Walker is a fan of music more than anyone I know—fan because he seeks it, supports it, encourages it, revels in it, lives by it; and not just another record collector.
